I have 3 cats. I absolutely HATE cleaning the box. This litter box is a Godsend. Works like a dream. I find I have to empty the 'container' about every 5-6 days with 3 cats, but who's complaining? And, if I want to be 'thrifty' you can empty the contents into and plastic grocery bag for disposal, and re-use the container, it's not yucky... I do find it's a little noisy, and as such was a little intimidating initially for the cats, but they adjusted quickly. And it makes the 'noise' about 10 minutes after they do their business. It just 'attracts' their attention when it's cleaning. I could not be happier. And Wal-Mart had THE best price. I shopped the entire internet (EBay, Amazon, etc). They delivered to the home free and fast too. You do need to be aware, if you have a power failure, you have to turn it back on. It does not automatically go back on with the return of power.
This is a fantastic product! It's easy to put together and works like a charm. Our 7 month old kitten had no problem transitioning to the new box, and worked just fine with the litter we already had (Fresh Step). So far everything has worked perfectly, the comb, the sensor, the air cleaner..everything. The waste receptacle is a good size...big enough to not have to worry about for 4 or 5 days. Would recommend to any cat owner.
I raised both of my cats with this type of cat box ever sense they first came out on the market and really am looking forward to the new one, I am sure it's not going to let me down. My cats wore out two of the earlier boxes that were smaller. When my orange tabby was a kitten, he climbed into the cat box and ended up getting a free ride on the rake as it was cleaning the litter doing it's job plus giving my kitten a real suprise of his little lifeand ended up in the waste bin. No he wasn't hurt just suprised !!!
This is my second LitterMaid. I am replacing the old version, which still works, because I wanted the bigger litter tray and removable rake. Whether you like this product will depend on your expectations. It's not perfect. It will leave behind some smaller crumbs and debris that slip thru the tines of the rake. It rakes a fair amount of clean litter into the receptacle. It makes noise. But... it does a good job of sweeping thru the litter box and clearing away the clumps. The ionizer helps with the smells. The noise is a high pitched whine that you can keep from running during night time hours is you want. The litter tray is a bit bigger than the previous versions, which is a big plus for my large cats. My cats don't particularly like the noise it makes, but they are out of it by the time it starts running. They have no problem using it. It's also easier to clean than previous versions. This is a lot of money to spend on a less than perfect litter box, but for some of us, it's worth the money. I love it!
We originally bought their Classic Littermaid model a few years ago and it worked very well for our 2 cats. It was really convenient if we were gone for a weekend, and it lasted about 2 years before the motor went out. We made the mistake of buying this newer "Elite" model, which had more features. What a mistake. It didn't work nearly as well as the Classic model; it costs more and didn't keep the litter box all that clean (pieces would get stuck behind the moving scooper). Do yourself a favor and buy the Classic model instead.
This automatic litterbox doesn't compare to the discontinued Littermaid "Mega". I have 3 cats, and had the "Mega" for approx 4-5 years. The motor that powers the rake in the "Mega Elite" doesn't seem as strong as the previous "Mega" model. Given a choice, I would have picked the original "Mega" model over the new and improved "Elite"!
I had high hopes for this product, but it really is a piece of junk..I spend as much time cleaning this tray as I did the non-self cleaning tray and at least I did not have to buy "special" kitty litter.. this thing is sadly on the verge of going back to the store.
I have had a self cleaning older model litter box for six years when the motor finally went out. Love the self cleaning so decided to get a newer better model. This one stinks! The metal comb gets clogged all the time. And the motor kept breaking. Get the old model! I had to send this one back 3 times in 6 months because it kept breaking. The last time they finally sent me the old model and have not had an issue!
Had my old one for over 5 years. It finally gave out. I spent several hours researching for the best one and decided since I had good luck with my other to go with this one. It's definitely not as sturdy. The worst part is the top tray always comes out of the 2 holes and then sits on top of the container so all waste piles on the top and falls everywhere. Doesn't scoop and clean nearly as well as my old one and I'm pretty upset about that. Wish I had my old one back or could find one.
I have had littermaid litter boxes before and have had very few problems with them. The new design with the flat fork cleaner is a joke.....it just doesn't work. DO NOT buy thhis product. I know I usually think people give reviews like this when they have other issues or are looking for more than they bought but honestly this system just doesn't work. Don't waste your money.
