I was looking for an AIO for our toddler and came across Kushies. We decided to give them a try and bought a 5 pack, along with a 10 pack of cloth inserts, plus a couple rolls of the biodegradable liners. We couldn't be happier :) We ended up buying another 5 pack of them to supplement our supply. Rather than lining the diaper front to back with one of the cloth inserts, I fold them in thirds and just lay one in the front of the diaper for extra absorbency (we have a son). I have never messed with trying to get them into the stitched in sleeve thingy - fuhgeddabowdit! The flushable liners are a Godsend for the BMs. Just lay one on the top of the diaper (next to baby's skin) - then when it's dirty you just lift up the front & back edges & drop in the toilet to flush away. They are similar to toilet paper but heavier (about the weight of a dryer sheet - papery but strong). They tear off just like TP, and are almost as long as the diaper front to back. My kid goes at the same time every day, so I only use these for those diapers. Sometimes he'll surprise me and go again at another time and then I wish I used them in every diaper! You'll have to be the judge for yourself though, whether to use in every diaper change or just the ones you anticipate getting messy. Caring for these diapers couldn't be more simple! First - take a second to fold the velcro tabs back on themselves as soon as you change the diaper (so that they don't attach themselves to the cloth of another diaper during the wash & dry cycles). I keep a bucket in the laundry room that I fill about 2/3 full with cold tap water and I dump in a bunch of white vinegar. I don't measure it with a cup, I just pour until I feel like it's enough. My bucket comfortably holds 7 or 8 diapers - when it's full I dump the entire thing, water & all, into my front loader. First I use the drain & spin cycle to get the water out, then I run the diapers and cloth inserts on a standard 'normal' cycle. I tweak my washer by using the 'heavy soil' setting, as well as using the 2nd rinse option - this makes the load run for over an hour but it's worth it - I am really pleased with how clean the diapers get. I use one full scoop of my favorite detergent in the dispenser, and instead of liquid fabric softner (do NOT use fabric softner of any kind on diapers - it will affect their absorbency) I use more white vinegar (don't worry, there is no smell at all left on the diapers). I also use the cold tap water setting, rather than warm (I believe the accompanying leaflet states to use warm water). No bleach, as it will eventually breakdown the cotton fabric as well as the outer diaper cover. I usually have to wash a load of diapers every 2 to 3 days. I just run the washer in the evening, then put them in dryer when I go to bed. For drying, I use the recommended 'medium' heat setting for as long as my dryer will run, which happens to be 80 minutes. They are dry every time, I've never had to re-start the dryer. Concerning stains - there is absolutely NO yellowing from urine, and I've noted that BM stains are minimal. Usually I just flush the big stuff & rinse off any clingy stuff - then I make sure that diaper gets completely submerged in the bucket. There is sometimes a faint BM stain on the diaper after the first wash, but after it goes through another wear & wash cycle, BM stains are pretty much not even noticeable. For the record, I have a big kid - he weighs 42 lbs and is 40" tall (almost 3 yrs old). He is on the upper end of the weight limit for these diapers yet they fit well around his waist. I personally feel they are a little short on the rise for him, but it's not causing any problems at this time with the fit (it might become a problem if he gets much taller while he's still in diapers). He's a heavy wetter, so I typically use a cloth insert folded in thirds with every diaper change and can go a bit longer between diaper changes than I would be able to go without the insert. Overnights are not a problem either, as long as I use the cloth insert. The outer diaper cover is not as plastic-y as you might think. Very cloth like, and no seep-through. In fact, the only leakage we've experienced was because I've left him in a wet diaper for too long - so the waist band of his pants have gotten damp, and sometimes the waist area of his shirt. The diapers do hold a lot of moisture though LOL! We have never experienced a BM leak/seep. Take a chance on the Kushies. For what we were paying for one and a half cases of disposable diapers we set up cloth diapering shop. Then we decided to spend a little more so that we had more supply to work with - and we feel like it was a great financial decision. Although some people may question the eco balance of disposable diapers in the landfills for 500 years versus using cloth diapers that consume energy & water to maintain, we feel like it was the best decision for our family. I only wish I'd made the change to cloth diapers sooner.

Paying forty bucks a month for disposable diapers killed our budget. I bought Kushies Reusable Ultra Diapers for Toddlers when my turned 17 months old. I searched several websites for affordable cloth diapers. I read Walmart.com's product reviews, and it looked like Kushies gave me the most bang for my buck. I prayed about it, got my husband's okay and bought 'em. I don't know how I lived without Kushies! I've already saved $240 by using Kushies. They're easy to pre-wash (I wear rubber gloves and rinse them out in the toilet, then soak them in a white vinegar-and-water solution, per a Walmart.com reviewer's advice). They're also easy to wash. Just throw 'em in the washing machine and use your normal detergent. I wash Kushies in hot water on the heavy cycle. They come out white and fresh-smelling every time. You do have to dry them on low, but they still dry pretty quickly. You can also line-dry them. I do a load of diapers every other day. No big deal. I bought the recommended cloth liners and, per another Walmart.com reviewer, bought birdseye cloth diapers to use as extra liners. What a brilliant tip! These extra liners absorb fantastically. My son wakes up with damp jammies once in a while, but he doesn't soak all the way through his clothes. He has the occasional blow-out, but this happened with disposable diapers, too :). Buy these diapers. They're good for your budget, good for the environment, and good for your self-esteem. You'll be able to say, "Hey, I use cloth diapers. It's no big deal!"

We decided to try "the switch" to cloth diapers and I was a little hesitant about it. It's quite an investment up front, but it has been worth it. These diapers feel like quality: they're heavy-duty, well-made, durable. You could get them from the Kushies website, but they cost more. My only complaint is that Wal-mart doesn't offer the newborn sizes. Hint: get the flushable liners. They make a world of difference come diaper-changing time. We use 2 overlapped (to cover more area) in the toddler diapers.

We've used Kushies full time since my 16 month old was born. These are awesome diapers. I do several rinses and spin, wash them with a cup baking soda a tiny bit of detergent and put 1.5 cups vinegar in the final rinse for a full load. They hold up to medium heat in the dryer too. It takes my dryer about an hour and 20 minutes or so to dry. If you have a high energy bill, consider hanging them, really save you some dough. Since my daughter has been in cloth the whole time, she lets me know when she's wet. Also helps you learn when they usually "go". We are potty training now, and the diaper laundry has really eased up. If you have a shower near your toilet, Replace your shower head with a sprayer that you can take down and hold in your hand. Then you can spray your poopy diapers into the toilet (cost is like 15 bucks), even better if it has a massage on it, then you have some power for sticky messes. (also makes shower cleaning a snap). There are also little sprayers that attach to your toilet, but check to make sure you have the right plumbing at the wall before you buy one. Put stained diapers out in the sun after washing for a couple of hours, they will be white and fresh. We keep a regular pail in the nursery and a plastic container under the sink cabinet in the bathroom. It has a lid with handle and side locking snaps (Steriltite makes them) for rinsed poopy diapers. Really keeps the smell down and nobody can see it. It's a little bigger than a shoe box. Works great! Only thing I don't like about Kushies is the velcro comes loose in the washer. If you don't want to clean a ton of lint out of the velcro tabs, don't wash cloth wipes or other clothes with the diapers. Be careful about buying sewn cloth diapers on Ebay, they just don't hold up. Kushies will last you a long time, even if you are hard on them.

I purchased 2 packs of these KUSHIES, plus two extra sets of washable liners and 2 rolls of the disposable inserts. So, that gave me 10 diapers, 20 washable inserts and 2 rolls of the disposable liners for BM's. I liked them right away...but my husband did not. With his negative feelings about them and all of the extra laundry I was suddenly doing...it was more of a burden than anything. And, if there is one thing you dont need more of when you are recovering from a high-risk pregnancy, a c/section and a colicky baby...its more work!! The KUSHIES were leaking on the sides, but it wasnt until a year later that I found out what I was doing wrong that was causing the leaks...I will talk about that more later... So, sadly after only using them about 10 days... I got discouraged. I never got used to the learning curve...never found out why the KUSHIES were leaking because I put the diapers away in a bin in the basement. My daughter was about 1 years old. My daughter is now 2 1/2 and not potty trained. About two months ago she began to outgrow the size 6 disposable diapers and I got scared because there are no size 7's in the store. You can get size 7's online, but they cost about $10 more a box...plus you pay $10 more for shipping. I did find a different brand of size 6 that fit my daughter, but this company does not sell it in bulk size. They want $20 for only 60 disposable diapers. I would have needed a new box every week/week-and-a-half the way my daughter goes through diapers. I wasnt willing to increase my monthly spending to buy $80 worth of diapers. I was also begininng to have some increased awareness/concerns about what we are putting on/near our skin at home. I decided to give the KUSHIES another try out of necessity/desperation...and I AM SO GLAD I DID!! I LOVE THESE DIAPERS!!! I WISH I HAD NOT GIVEN UP SO EASILY!!! It is so easy to take a large bucket filled with water with about a tablespoon of vinegar and every two days...throw the whole thing in the wash! I wash mine in cold water and dry on gentle. You can line dry them...they come out just as fabulous...but if you live in a colder climate or only have one or two days supply...you might run out before the others are dry. Each time I add a diaper, I use a long wooden spoon to push it down into the bucket. The diapers themselves are still white and clean because the extra reusable liners take the stains that comes from the BM's. AND, just as I mentioned...HERE IS THE TRICK I learned to keeping the my little one from urinating out through the sides! Once the diaper is on and the velcro is fastened...press your fingers on the sides of the diapers and draw it sides closer to your baby's private area. It provides a more snug and secure fit to keeping it from leaking on the sides. Remember, disposable diapers have elastic bands on the sides that automatically secure that area. You will have to do for yourself with your hands...but once I learned that I have not had one leak! Just make sure to tuck in the extra liner that might be peeking out of the diaper on the sides or it will leak or "wick" urine onto your childs clothes. Just dont let the liner overreach the top of the diaper or it will "wick" the urine to your child clothes. As for the DISPOSABLE KUSHIES inserts that come on the roll for BM's... I used a few..but in the end, I wont be using them because because I prefer that only real cotton fibers touch my baby's skin. They did work though and are still convenient, especially if you want to reduce the staining that will happen with the washable inserts and you plan on re-selling them after you are done. My daughter will be potty trained in the next few months...and I am thinking about having another baby just so I can keep using these...LOL!! ...(just kidding)...not really but I LOVE USING THESE DIAPERS and now I am finally confident enough to use them in public, too! One last comment, everyone is different...but having 10 diapers and 20 inserts is just the right amount for one child.

for someone who had never thought of using cloth diapers, these appealed to me as seeming easy and convenient as well as a way to save money & not add so much to the landfills. i like them very well my only complaint is that if my kids are sitting too long in them they tend to leak (like if they are in their carseat or stroller) but other than that they do pretty well. i havent used them at night though and am considering buying the inserts to see if that solves my leaking problem or not. overall, i would recommend them to someone who doesnt mind doing a little extra laundry and who wants to save money & help the environment.

the only drawback I've found for this diaper is that it's bulky. this is my first time using cloth so that may just be the case with all cloth diapers. they have good leak protection, are easy to use, and easy to clean though so overall i'm very pleased. the value is unbeatable.

First cloth diapers I have used and the only cloth diapers I will use. They are easy to put on & take off my baby. Easy to clean and stay soft wash after wash. When my daughter started wearing the Kushies her diaper rash disappeared.

Much easier than I expected

My son had just turned 2 before we decided to buy these diapers. I don't know why we waited so long! I have always wanted to use cloth diapers and always thought they would be too much of a pain. I have been looking at cloth diapers since I was pregnant with my 2 yr old. Too many choices, too much money to invest & would be stuck if you didn't like them or choose not to go that route. But because my son has extremely sensitive skin we finally decided to take the plunge. All diapers (esp. name brand ones that are more absorbant) were making him have terrible diaper rashes. We kept having to get prescription diaper cream with a steriod because he would bleed down there. I would change his diapers every 30 mins and it would not matter, the min. they got wet his rash would flare back up. These cloth diapers have cleared up his rash. We have been using them for 3 wks now & he has only had one very minor rash! They are much easier to wash & care for than I expected. We have 2 diaper pails, one for the trash - wipes - and the other I have filled half way up with water & 1/4 cup vinegar. We wash diapers every other day. To wash I just carry the whole bucket & dump it in the washer, I then add another 1/4 cup of vinegar to the wash & set my washer setting to soak. After they soak & have been spinned I then start the regular wash with the tinest bit of baby laundry det. (that is how we do all all wash due to his & my sensitive skin.) After that I just throw them in the dryer. I only put 4 stars for durability because they do have some strings pulling off them, on the diapers & the liners. But I think that is because my husband keeps forgetting to fold the velcro tabs back on themselves before putting them in the pail. So far we have not have had any stains & my son has 2 to 3 BM's a day - which we just take the whole diaper & flush that away before sticking the diaper in the pail. I do use the extra liners (I bought 2 packs so have 20 liners) with each diaper since he is a heavy wetter. I also bought the flushable wipes, I am not sure if I like those yet or not. I am going to write a review up on those next. I bought 3 packs of these diapers so we have 15 diapers, I am considering purchasing a 4th pack though just to have some extras. We have only had one leak with these & it was because I put the diaper on way too loose, that was the first day of trying them out & we haven't had any problems since I figured out how tight they need to be. When we have our next baby he or she will only have these diapers! Even when my mom babysat for us was very impressed with these & they were easy for her to use as well. She only used the cloth diapers even though I told her she could put him in disposables while she watched him. I highly recommend these diapers & if you are unsure do like I did & only order one pack upfront then if you like them you can order the rest. I think you will be pleasantly surprised with the ease of these and these are the best deal for cloth all in one diapers.

when I first got these I was surprised at how big they were. I purchased liners to help with overnight usage since my son would still leak. I only use these at nighttime and naptime because they are so big that I can't put pants over them. They work well but do leak a little once in awhile when my son has a very wet night. I first started using them when he was about 7 months old and he still can wear them at 14 months now. The problem now is that the outer material is starting to rip open were the stitches hold the tabs in place, so that they leak a little there. I can't imagine what condition they would be in if I used them 24/7. In the end they work and have saved us a lot of money, but I will probably upgrade in quality with the next baby and then hopefully I won't have to buy any more.
