I bought this typewriter because I like to do casual writing and I Love to make lists. This typewriter does the job. Of coarse it is a low tech item, its manual, so it has simple keys and controls and works in a simple manner. With all manual typewriters you must strike the keys a little harder than you would with an electric one or a computer keyboard, but it is not hard to use at all. The red and black ribbon is great. The case is convenient and this typewriter gives you that great old fashioned & classic writing feeling with the functionality of a new product. I like this typewriter because its not high tech but its not ancient or hard to use. Plus it inspires me to write more...maybe its that old sound each key strike makes, but this is definitely a great product for casual writers. I'm not sure if this is so appropriate for typing official documents and school work because the letters do not always line up PERFECTLY, but they line up well enough for casual writing.
I bought this typewriter for my mother in South Africa who simply refuses to deal with these "new fangled electric typewriters" or heaven forbid a laptop. She is happy with it although it would appear as though the ribbon must have been old as she only typed one letter with it and had to turn the ribbon over. I have since sourced and purchased spare ribbons for her.
When I got this product I was happy but when I got home and after following the steps to set up. I sadly discovered the one I had didn't work. I have to get a refund then order a new one.. the lever was on black but was stuck on red font.. the letters were stuck in one spot instead of making a consistant word... I called royal and they determined it was falty due to uknown reasons. I am not sure if I want to wast my time ordering another one. I dont know if I want to waste my time. My heart is broken..
