I'm a single mom and over the years, I've taught myself to take care of as many projects projects as I can in order to save money, learn to take care of things myself and to teach my son car and home maintenance. When this product became available, I ordered it with a specific project in mind...I had no idea how addicting it was going to be!! I have been using it EVERYWHERE!! I have used it around pipes,, both indoor and outdoor, around my dryer vent to prevent critters from getting in through the gaps, I used it around my shed doors, all around the perimeter of my house where I saw gaps. I literally went "looking" for areas to use this product - I wanted to use the entire can at once because I felt using it at a later time might not be as easy as the first, especially once it has been exposed to air.
We used this stuff before and were happy with the results so I snapped up this can when it became available. It's not for tiny cracks but expands pretty big. And once the can is open, you should use it all up because the straw and such become clogged and solid because it cures rigid and can be trimmed, sanded, stained, and painted. So think and plan before use. Fills seals, and insulates gaps up to 1 inch. It creates an airtight, water resistant seal and sticks very well to building materials on both interior & exterior. Wear gloves, can is 1x use only, foam can be razor-cut. It was a great help when we redid the walls in the pumphouse.
I had to drill a hole through my plaster wall to route a security camera cable and wanted to fill in around the poly tubing sleeve I put in there. I'm not a plasterer so didn't want to try plastering it over. This stuff expanded more than I counted for, but the excess is very easy to trim off. A cheap razor blade shop knife goes through it like butter. The nice thing is that when it was still soft it ran into a small spaces and filled in around my sleeve. I plan to put molding over the wire and then can paint the whole thing so I needed to see if paint stuck to it. I put a coat of latex primer on it and that stuck well and didn't melt the stuff. There are little bubble holes on the sirface where I cut it off that could either be plastered over, or it looks like another coat or two of primer will about fill them in. I think I'll go that route because the first coat of primer hardened the stuff up nicely. The body of the patch remains a little flexible, but the surface that's painted is as hard as the paint. Of course if you're filling in something that won't be visible the surface appearance won't be a problem. The only downside I see is the little bubble holes, but I think that just comes with using this type of filler. The outside surface dries to a smooth surface, but if you cut some off you will espose the little bubble holes inside.
I bought a house 11 years ago. Ever since then I had gotten water in the basement when it rained heavy. I decided to try filling the area with Big gap filler. I finally have a dry basement! It filled the area up against the foundation and stopped the leak! I'm super happy it worked so well. Saved me a fortune.
This gap filler works really well for drafty windows, outside spots where water can get in and many other uses. I put some around my windows and outside water spigots. You only need a small amount because it enlarges the amount approximately 3 times. Great stuff Gap Filler turns into a dry foam and keeps out water and air. I also used it at the base of my walls in my garage to keep out cold air in the winter. Try this and it should reduce electric bills and you will save yourself some money.
I found a gap under my bathroom sink. When we bought our house it had a full remodel already. We had started to notice some less than perfect fixes in places you don't always look like under sinks and things. This was hidden behind a cabinet with drawers. But when I looked for my makeup I spotted it. It was a rather large gap around the sink pipes. And as anyone knows a gap in wallboard can mean escaping heat and entering cold air. So i decided this was a great place to give it a try. This stuff worked AMAZINGLY I just kept spraying a bit at a time till I saw it rising slowly out of the hole. It expanded to fill the gap well. I felt no more air coming from the hole. I was wondering if it was a one time use can or if it could be used again. Because there was quite a lot left in the can. This stuff quickly dried in the hose. And I didn't think it would be usable again. But I found some hints online that said to lightly tug at the dried material at the end of the tube. And it slid right out. Clean tube ready for use again. This stuff is a lifesaver as I do not know how to repair Sheetrock. And honestly it is out of sight so a beauty fix isn't necessary. I highly recommend this stuff for weather proofing gaps holes and small spaces.
I filled a small gap in the wall of my garage using GREAT STUFF Gap Filler and was surprised how easy to use it was. The long angled tube attachment has a small enough diameter get into small gaps. The foam really fills it in. Once you spray it out of the tube it really starts to grow "and fill" and continued to expand for a couple hours. It was a bit tacky for about 24 hrs. Although the foam dries firm, it is still a bit pliable. I think its great that you can trim, buff and paint it. There were no directions on the bottle for possibly re-using the can and tube again. Although I really tried to clean the tube after use, I was unable to get any more foam out of the can after a few days. It would have been nice to use it again at a later time.
This is a very useful product. Perfect replacement for when the alternate would be a lot of calk. I used it to fill gaps in windows and was able to then sand and paint over it. I have used it inside the house so I am not sure if this can be used outside and will withstand extreme heat, rain or cold. Straw makes it easy to get to hard to reach surfaces. One thing I would like to mention is that the foam expands quickly and becomes big so this product is not meant to be used to fill small cracks.
The Great Stuff Big Gap filler does Just what it says it does! It fills the gaps! This can has filled the crap under my front door with ease and I've also been able to use it to fill the spaces around the lighting fixture holes in my garage and other various gaps to the outside of the house. It has surprised me how versatile this has been. Super easy to use and a little bit goes a long way.
This works to fill large gaps but be prepared for a mess. It works the same as the other Great Stuff formulas by expanding to fill gaps, but it drips if it's not on a flat surface. You have to use acetone to clean up until it has hardened (cured). After it has cured, you can sand it or use a serrated blade to remove any excess foam. And be prepared to lose a lot of foam if you don't have a large job because once the foam cures in the dispensing tube, you can't use it any more. It does what it's supposed to do well, though.
