Anyone who can sleep with this clock's loud ticking on a table next to his bed is a sounder sleeper than I am. It does not make sense to sell a clock for the bedroom that has a fairly loud tick. This clock disturbs my sleep, so I am returning it. I have another quartz alarm clock that ticks, but it's tick is much softer and barely noticeable. But the price on this clock is very good!
I am hard of hearing, most alarm clocks available in most stores will not wake me up. I can no longer find ig Ben clocks in local stores. I just need iit for travel. The box does advertise a loud alarm, so I tried it. The alarm does get louder as it chimes; but, this one is electronic. To properly notice beeps, I must have the back of it facing me. The clocks with real bells on top were not available in the store closest to my hotel. I'll use it once and donate afterwards.
