My sons and I are Titanfall fans. So when we saw this, we all wanted to get it. This did not disappoint...but it does come with a few cautions: The first thing one of my sons said was "wow, there's a lot of pieces." I took a picture of these pieces to demonstrate it. There's over 1400 pieces! First caution - don't open all the bags at once. You will lose pieces and it will frustrate you to no end looking for them. Also, if you do open them, keep the ones not used in zip lock bags. Next caution - space. We cleared out the entire dining table to put this together. However, we could not finish this in one sitting. In fact, it took several days for us to finish this. So please don't start this on the dining room table. You will be asked to move all the stuff at dinner time and it will take you a long time to clean up! Third caution - It takes time. I already alluded to this. But it took several days to work through all the pieces. I think for younger kids, it will be definitely helpful (and probably recommended) for the adult to be there to help. There are a lot of pieces and lot of instructions to get through. With all of that said, the final product is worth it. You get two mechs - an Ogre and an Atlas both about 12" tall. Now these are not diecast metal robots (like old school transformers), these are plastic. But nevertheless, I think they're impressive. The arms, legs, hands, feet all articulate. You can make it so the mech is holding a rifle. Also you can pose the mech in different positions. In addition, the rest of the Angel City set is fleshed out with the included detail stickers (which makes a huge difference). Overall, I am impressed with the final product. Just keep in mind getting there is part of the journey - think bonding time, shared failures and victories, but the end is worth it. Again if this is for kids 10 or under, I definitely recommend the adult to be present to help the build. I would recommend this to family and friends.
My boys ages 11 and 14 were excited to begin building this K'nex Titanfall - Ultimate Angel City Campaign Building Set. The box comes with instructions on how to build each individual item. The box states it is for ages 8+ and I would agree that it is not for children younger than that unless they have help with assembly. This set will need a larger work area to assembly it; my boys used our dining room table. It comes with 1448 pieces, which will make the city, IMC Ogre Titan and Militia Atlas Titan, and 6 mini men. Some of the pieces were a little difficult for my 11 year old to assemble, but my 14 year old had no trouble assembling those pieces. I like that this included the two Titan robots because it was for both my boys. This gave them each a Titan to build. The Titans are their most favorite part of the set. The Titan robots are a nice size and are pretty durable while playing with them. My oldest son loved the tower, but my younger son was all about the special limited edition mini man which he thought was “way cool.” This is a great set for anyone who loves to build and who likes creativity. My boys enjoy Legos, K'Nex, and any building activities and this set was a definite hit with them. I recommend when disassembling that one use Ziploc baggies to put the pieces in to make it easier to rebuild.
ULTIMATE IS THE WORD. THIS IS THE ULTIMATE. MY 3 GRANDSONS WORKED FOR A WEEK CREATING. THE WORST FAULT I HAVE TO THIS IS THAT THERE IS SO MANY SMALL PIECES FOR THE YOUNGER KIDS AROUND, AND THERE SEEMS TO BE A MILLION PIECES I FIND PARTS ALL OVER MY HOUSE. OVERALL THEY LOVED IT AND ENJOYED CREATING THE TOWERS, THEY DID NOT ALWAYS GO BY THE DIRECTIONS FOR BUILDING THE ANGEL CITY, SOME OF IT THEY CAME UP WITH ON THEIR OWN AND ENCORPERATED IT INTO THEIR PROJECT. IT WAS GREAT SEEING THEM BEING EXCITED ABOUT CREATING THEIR OWN ANGEL CITY. NOW THEY AND LITTLE SISTER HAVE TORE IT ALL APART AND THINKING ABOUT WHAT ELSE THEY CAN BUILD. THEY WANT TO GO ALL THE WAY ACROSS THEIR ROOM NEXT TIME. THEY LOVE IT
The set contains 1,448 pieces and includes 6 action figures/creatures; two are about 10 inches tall with moveable features, and several weapons launchers which fire upon releasing your hand/fingers. So it's interactive, two kids can battle it out with each other. The instructions are difficult but I'm not a patient person. A patient person can build 2 different building complexes, a tactical ground force including shrubs, trees, rocks, etc), and a communications tower for each building. 83% of this set is made in America.
I got this after having tried another K'NEX set a few months ago. I love the Titanfall game and figured this would be a good addition to some of my figures. First off, I noticed a major difference between both sets, the first K'NEX set I got came with a nice storage box, this one did not. I am not sure if this is normal, but I missed having the box to store pieces into. I do like the ability to create multiple characters without needing the same pieces. The first one I made was the one pictured, which took a few hours and some "where's waldo" with a few of the pieces. Unlike normal K'NEX, you have to have the correct pieces, but that isn't a big deal. Some of the pieces however, where a bit difficult to snap together and would probably require assistance of an adult if a child was putting them together. It comes with stickers and pieces to assist with making the characters look more realistic. All together this product is great for those who love Titanfall and enjoying having figures or kids to play with. They look pretty cool on my shelf, and even more awesome because I build them!
Great building set but you do need to have a long attention span. My kids really were excited to get this building set and get started putting it together. The amount of parts was a bit intimidating when I first opened the box. There were lots of bags of tiny little parts. 1448 parts to be exact. This kit says it is for kids ages 8+ but I think an 8 year old might have a hard time doing it by himself. With a little help though it is loads of fun. If you are already familiar with other K'nex building sets I think it may be less intimidating but this was our very first set. You are going to need some space for this set as well as a good chunk of time as there are lots of parts and it is a huge set. Great value as you are getting quite a bit in the box. The instructions are very clear and well written which I was extremely grateful for but it is still going to take some commitment to get it completeled. We especially liked the Militia Atlas Titan and IMC Ogre Titan. The size of these 2 Titans is quite impressive. They are each almost 11 inches tall and have lots of working and moveable parts. They have hands that grasp and lots of bendable ball joints with great movability as well as preessembled weapons that shoot spring loaded projectiles. In the top part of the Titan it opens up and a little pilot sits right in a seat which can be raised and lowered from a lever located on the back. There is also a very nice variety of small figurines and weapons included in this set. 6 small figurines in addition to the 2 larger ones that you build. The 6 figurines also have weapons that shoot projectiles. The structures themselves also have some cool features. The 3 large building structures are made with a mix of the K'nex pieces as well as card stock to give it more of a realistic look and includes an additional broken up street structure. Lots of platforms with cool action features. You can remotely control one of your pilot figurines with an attachment as well as blow up portions of the structure with little levers. Lots of great fun for live action imaginitive play. Overall this is a fun building set for Titanfall and K'nex fans as long as you have the patience for it. It would make a great rainy day activity or father son activity. This K'nex set is well made and lots of fun and great for your child's imagination.
The robots are easy once you get the hang of it, but the arm joints were sort of difficult to insert. The city has complex instructions and you really have to pay attention to detail or one piece misplaced messes up the whole section. It really is meant for focused builders that have lots of time on their hands. There are many tiny little pieces that are easy to lose so an extra container might be necessary to store them till it's finished. My twelve year old daughter says the city is very difficult to build, but loves the robots and little soldiers.
My son is a huge fan of Titanfall and he really enjoyed this set. It is a bit on the costly side, but you get a lot of quality product. K'NEX sets come in semi- sorted unlabeled bags, and there are several bags in this set plus sheets of scenery and stickers. It challenged my son of 11 enough to keep him interested, but not so much as to cause frustration. (This was his first K'NEX set.) Because he is a very conscientious builder, he spent several hours over two days to put it together properly. The instructions were good, although I did have to help once to find two tiny parts. Overall, I observed him having a lot of fun getting this set put together and even more fun setting up the scenes and playing with it. This set looks great when left on display. Pros - This set is very large. Lots of pieces, two complete titans, several little Pilots and Spectres, ruined buildings, towers and more. - The instructions were clear, even for an 11 year old. - The details of this set are wonderful. Like the pilots that fit into the titans, the scenery details with stairs, and the figurines are very similar to the game. - Once built, the items could be handled without falling apart. - The projectiles shoot as expected. - K'NEX are very sturdy and the pieces stood up to being taken apart and reassembled. Cons - If your kid has not learned to put things together by following a set of instructions, they will need guidance. - This is the kind of toy that my kid wants to leave set up on display - it does take up a good bit of space. - I would have liked the Ogre titan to be a bit more articulated. His arms especially, so that he could hold the gun better.
My 9 year old and I decided we would put this huge building set together as a weekend project/family bonding thing. However, after we laid everything out on the table, we quickly realized that several pieces were missing-402 to be exact! I called K'Nex. They said if it were just a few they would gladly mail me the missing pieces. However, since it was way more, I should return it for a new one. Since I did not have the reciept, I could not. Despite this, my son combined it with the building set he got for christmas last year and was able to build some awesome stuff. One thing about this set that made me give it a lower rating is the fact that it has some cardboard pieces. These pieces will not last anywhere near as long as the rest of the set. I feel that they could have been plastic with stickers on them like some of the other included pieces instead.
This is not a starter set. It has so many pieces with hard to follow directions that my 11 year old lost interest. I think most 8 year old's would feel the same feeling of being overwhelmed. The age needs to be higher. It was so overwhelming that big brother had to pitch in to help. Even my 26 year old found it difficult and he loves K'nex. The directions were hard to follow. The parts were tiny and numerous. I had hoped that this would be a fun joint project for the two of them. Instead, they gave up after awhile and went outside to play catch. This set needs a dedicated space to build it in so that the amount of pieces can be dealt with without people having to walk through or pets having to deal with it. It needs a child who doesn't bore easily and probably older. It requires dedication with no expectation of instant gratification and once built used as a diorama and not a play set. Maybe you will have a better experience with it. Ours was not good.
