Surprisingly nice guitar, great price

I was looking around a good bit for a low-cost classical guitar to learn how to play, and after shopping around I found this one at Walmart online. The price was excellent compared to other vendors of the same one (Kona KC-1), and the quality of the guitar was better than I expected for the price. It is a Kona, who get great reviews for their other guitars, and although it is mass produced in China and probably at the low end of Kona's guitar line, it looks good and sounds good. It has its rough spots on the inside and little finish issues on the fingerboard, but it is solid and for what I wanted, a good "beater" to learn on--it exceeded my expectations, because it looks nicer than I thought it would. I got it for less than some of the super-duper el-cheapo models on Ebay, and the free shipping to my local Wal-Mart really helped on the overall cost. I had a friend who plays guitar look at it. His comments were generally favorable, but he plays professionally and has some really nice high-end guitars, so this one was "definitely entry-level" and "a good starter guitar". He said the action was set a little high for him, but that can be adjusted with some judicious sanding on the saddle at the bridge. I will probably play it a bit and do that later. Regarding the previous comment about the strings: From what I've read, all classical guitars require new strings replaced more often than steel string guitars, because of the accelerated wear on softer nylon strings. I believe that the original set is adequate to get started, but I will definitely upgrade on the next batch. But these have worked adequately for me and don't appear to be in imminent danger of breaking. Strings are a "consumable", and all my guitar-playing friends have advised me to keep several spare sets on hand. BTW, buy a low-cost electronic tuner; it saves a lot of work for a beginner like me who hasn't built up an ear for tuning yet. E-A-D-G-B-E Eat a dad-gum biscuit, Ethel!

The product arrived and one of the strings was broken in less than 24 hours. The quality of the strings is not adequate and the guitar has a "hum" in it when certain strings are plucked. I do not recommend this product.
