I was looking for a voice recorder as a gift for my 78 year old father as he wants to record his memories. I needed a simple , easy to use and intuitive gadget. I tried it before I gave it to him and it was just what I was looking for. It took me about 5 minutes to download the program and email a test data in 2 steps. Just what I was looking for.

I used this in class and this is great. I recorded songs on this and stuck head phones on it and use it at the gym. I can record many different recordings on this recorder. I do recommend this.

A digital voice recorder is handy for taking notes, recording meetings, or dictating letters or memos for later transcription. A big advantage over a tape recorder is the fact that each recording is stored as a separate file. You don't have to search through a tape looking for a particular recording. This unit has three recording modes. Use the HQ mode. It will record a bit over 17 hours on that setting and the sound quality is excellent. The recordings will be saved as .WAV files, so you can easily transfer them to a Mac or Windows PC. The SP and LP settings give you extended time (up to 200 hours) at the cost of significantly degraded sound quality and a proprietary file format that you can only use with the bundled software. That software is compatible with Windows but not Macs. Who needs more than 17 hours of capacity anyway? The USB connector slides out and you can plug the recorder into a USB port like an oversized flash drive. It looks just like a flash drive to your computer. You can copy files back and forth without using the bundled software. (The bundled software is pretty limited. I gave it a quick once-over and decided I had no further use for it. It allows you to add bookmarks to a file and to convert the low quality recordings to a PC compatible format. It doesn't work with Macs.) One novel use for that feature is to record a message and attach it to an email message. You don't even have to copy the file to your computer. Just point to the file on the recorder and make the attachment, just as you would with a file on a flash drive. Folks that can't type can use that as a quick way to send a personal email. The recorder allows you to edit your recordings. You can insert or cut material and you can append new material to the end of an existing recording. You can add "bookmarks" to a recording so that you can skip ahead or back to those locations quickly. There are some flaws in the design of the editing software. If you insert or cut material any existing bookmarks will be deleted from that file. Since bookmarks would make editing a lot easier that's a real inconvenience. There's no way to back up two or three seconds and repeat something. If you want to hear it again you have to start from the beginning of the file or the nearest bookmark. If you're trying to insert new material at a precise point and accidentally run a second or so past that point you have to go back to the beginning and start over. If you were luck enough to have inserted a bookmark shortly before the insertion point you can save a lot of time. Once you've inserted your material you want to listen to it to confirm the insertion sounds the way you want. Trouble is, your bookmark is now gone. See why it's a problem that editing the file deletes the bookmarks? That's just another example of software written by someone who doesn't really have any idea how to use it. "Hey, let's include insert, cut, and append! What a great idea." So they include those features but because they don't actually work with the product they don't make them as useful as they could be. Nevertheless, it's a good product. It could have been better, but it's very good as it is. And none of the others I looked at did any better job with their editing software.

Nabbed the last one our store had - it's a quick seller, and for good reason too. RCA did a wonderful job with this recorder. My favorite feature has got to be the RETRACTABLE USB PORT! So handy and easy to use. For some this voice recorder could be a little overwhelming because of all the special effects it offers, however don't be dissuaded by that. Just don't use them. Very simple to record, stop, play and erase. Great product for an even better price!

Got this Recorder just before a conference. It's almost everything I hoped for. The voice quality was better than a sony recorder my friend used. The built in usb port for transferring files to PC is awesome. As a nice touch the software for converting files from proprietary format to wave files is loaded in the recorder itself rather than a separate cd. The only downer is the battery life. The battery runs out in about 15 hours, which seems to be less than competing models. Not a big deal for me. But if you use it everyday it may be a good idea to get some rechargeables.

I use this recorder for my police scanner using a 3.5mm male (headphone jack) to 3.5mm male cable in to the Mic In. Being that it has voice activated, it allows me to go to various places, record with no annoying silence what is said on the radio frequencies I end up picking up. Silence can get extremely annoying, especially if their is little traffic on said radios. I think all portable recorders should come with Mic In and Headphone jack, but obviously they all don't. I personally would never buy a recorder without Mic and Headphone. If you are a scanner listener and wish to record, I 100% recommend it, though I wish it used a USB cable instead of flip-out one. I always use a USB extension cable, because I don't trust plugging the recorder straight in to the computer, thinking having it hang may make it snap.

I bought this to tape my speeches and put them on a website. I am impressed with the quality of the audio recording and playback from the internal mic and speaker. Recording can be done manually or voice activated. The external mic jack also allows me to wear a clip on mic and put the recorder in my shirt pocket. There so many features you might need to carry the instructions just to be able to use them all correctly. The negative is that some text on the screen is tiny. I couldn't read some of it even with glasses so I had to learn the order of button pushing which is why it doesn't get 5 stars for overall rating. Even so it's a nice recorder.

A little confusing to operate, but I guess to have it so small you need to comprimise. I really like, does what I need it to do.

I was very excited to find this economically priced voice recorder...especially since the box said it would work on my MacBook. But, alas, some things are just too good to be true! When plugged into the USB port, nothing happens. Absolutamente nada! It is not recognized by the computer and as such, is now of limited use to me since I don't have a PC. If someone knows a fix for this problem, please post.
