Cracking good blu-ray, Gromit!

Wallace and Grommit: The Complete collection contains four hilarious claymation animated tales featuring the title characters Wallace (a cheese-obsessed wacky inventor) and Grommit (a sensible newspaper reading dog). The four stories presented are "A Grand Day Out," "The Wrong Trousers," (my personal favorite) "A Close Shave," and "A Matter of Loaf and Death." As a blu-ray the picture and sound are both quite serviceable. With each of the stories presented in their original aspect ratios you'll be able to see how the series has progressed over the years. The first two episodes "A Grand Day Out," and "The Wrong Trousers," are presented in a 1.33:1 aspect ratio. "A Close Shave" is presented in a 1.66:1 aspect ratio. While the final segment, "A Matter of Loaf and Death," is presented in the widescreen ratio of 1.78:1. Special mention must be made of the bump up in fine detail from the DVDs - you can clearly see the fingerprints on the actual claymation figures(!) and make out the slighest nuance of the textured materials making up the world of W&G. On the audio front, the uncompressed 5.1 LPCM track delivers a huge upgrade from the DVD's Dolby Digital (also included here). The sound upgrade is at least as impressive as the visuals. Overall W&G is a true animated treat, especially in these times of CGI animation dominance. If you are a W&G fan there is absolutely no way to go wrong with this beautifully presented blu-ray. At under $10 this is a STEAL, buy it now!
