I purchased this with the Delahey 5-piece patio set, and it matches perfectly. It's sturdy enough to keep a large umbrella well anchored, even in some breezy weather.
A friend told me to get one like she had that she fills with water. All I could find were ones that had to be filled with sand. That sounded like a mess to me and I don't keep bags of sand around. So I read the other reviews and decided on this. It's been a few weeks now and we've had wind and storms and the umbrella is still standing. That's all I needed and the price was really good.
This umbrella stand is different from most typical ones that you see and it looks wonderful on a redwood deck. My only complaint, and it's not really a true complaint, is that the company should apply their metal advertising plate on the underneath side instead of on the top where it is so visable. Kinda ruins the look somewhat, but it's not a deal breaker. Very happy with this product!
Very Sturdy wood base. It looked like a better base than some of the cheap metal bases. It can be lifted and carried but does not falter when windy and rainstorm effect local weather. Good choice of bases.
THIS IS A GREAT BUY FOR THE MONEY, LOOKS EXPENSIVE AND THE WOOD BASE IS REALLY NICE. I HAVE NOT HAD THIS LONG SO I REALLY DON'T KNOW HOW WELL THIS WILL HOLD UP OUTDOORS.
I had looked at several stores for a round umbrella stand. I found one at Target for $49 but didn't want to pay that much since I was only using them for umbellas that shield my vegatable garden from the severe mid day sun. They actually are so nice looking that I'm thinking they would be great for the patio umbrellas as well. Very sturdy so I think they will hold the umbrellas solid even when the wind picks up.
The Delahey Wood Umbrella base is absolutely a wonder as a decorative and useful umbrella stand on our patio. It is easily moved by simply turning it up on its side and rolling it to another location in the yard. A wonderful choice.
The base is lovely and heavy enough for the umbrella; however, I thought the base would accomodate a smaller umbrella pole by tightening the base screw. I still think it does; however, I could not tighten it--probably only needs more strength in turning the screw.
I have only owned the base for a week or so, but it seems to be well made. I am concerned at how it may weather due to the metal frame. I will be sure to use teak/oak oil on the wood to keep the lovely, dark wood tone. The center is raised a bit, which makes your umbrella a tad taller (less than an inch).
It's a good, sturdy umbrella holder. However, "durable" is the last word I would use to describe the hardwood insets. They are very thin & brittle, & about 1/3 of them had fallen off of the base during shipping. Replacing them proved to be harder than it looked, as they had to be screwed back in & some did not fit into the base very well. About 1/2 of them have gone M.I.A. in the 2 years since I bought it. This is only a cosmetic feature of the product, however, & does not affect how it functions. If the base will be sitting underneath a patio table, it won't be very noticeable, so this minor flaw shouldn't be that big of a deal.
