I bought this a couple months ago and it has been working flawlessly, 'cept for a small tiny detail. Yesterday it sent me a message I didn't take too much notice about something concerning to the Power2go software and when I tried to burn a new DVD it changed the burning option from the name of the Optical Drive to Image Recorder DVD 5 or 9 and the PC froze. I had to reset it and change the burning method. I have no complains up to this day except for that one and I have to say it's a really great OD, reliable and fast. Having just purchased a new HP laptop, and not having a DVD/CD port/reader in the unit, I needed an external drive. Purchasing this item was a fantastic decision. It is a outstanding product and I can recommend it enthusiastically.
This unit fulfills my expectations completely. Slim, having dimensions of a CD case, requires quite a small footprint. The installation could not have been simpler. Remove it from the shipping carton, plug in the USB cable, insert the installation disk and within minutes I was playing a DVD. The software provides viewing/writing capability and also contains file backup to preserve computer file. This DVD writer is great!!!!! The only thing that I have a problem is, how to slow the writer so I can put movies on one DVD!! I use this item at the local library, but can not get any kind of help!!!! Because the staff think that I'm downloading movies that have copyright's!!! So far I've had a couple of issues--one particularly important for me: 1) the write speed seems slower than indicated by X__; 2) if burning a file that requires more than one blank disc to complete . . . it simply re-burns the first part over and over again, asking for an additional disc to be inserted ad infinitum! I bought this product with the idea that I could play a DVD. Inserted a disc after installing correctly, and only the audio would play. Tried another DVD and still could not get it it to play. It's not as simple as plugging in and "deciding what to do with the disc." Have some feelers out to some friends to figure out why I cannot get it to work.
I bought this a little under 2 months ago, and it worked great for about 2 weeks. I bought it for my acer chromebook so that I could view jpeg files and do my homework for school. I was able to use it for about 2 weeks and then it stopped working. The disk just spins and will no longer read. I starting thinking there was a problem with my chromebook, which I bought at the same time, so I had a friend use it on her Macbook (She has used mine previously, and it worked fine). The drive didn't work on hers either. I am just so annoyed because I made sure that I bought a chromebook and an external drive that were compatible for school, and now I'm back to using the school's outdated computers that are usually broken. The price was reasonable, but not worth 2 weeks of use. I do not recommend.
I had to install the software 2 times to get it to work once and then after 30 days I had to purchase an upgrade to continue to viewTbuy a diffent kind of portable DVD. The is no trouble shooting helps on the web site. This product just leaves you hanging and upset that you wasted your money on this. Nothing is good about this product
