I got this to give my tablet an optical drive. Works like I expected with no problems. It comes with the USB cable which says needs to be connected to 2 USB ports to operate properly. I only had one port to connect it to and it worked just fine for me although it says it needs two. Results may vary. Good drive for the price.
Was not put off by the lack of a stand as the dvd drive is top notch and very reasonable. Plug and play makes it ever so easy. Received in 1 1/2 days. Fantastic!!
No extra wire for outlet, hooks by usb directly to computer and your done. Practically no installation required.Very simple and was able to put a disc in and download what I needed with it.
I purchased this product to be an external drive for my computer because the internal CD drive is broken . I was surprised at how sleek the unit is, which I like becuse it sits on top of my computer tower without taking up much space. I love electronics that you can operate without having to read a manual, and this on fits the bill perfectly. It did the job I purchased it for, by installing the software from my new printer into my computer. I'm very happy with the purchase.
Easy to install. I bought it to replace a failing drive. I like the burning software that came with it better than what I had in the computer. I like the idea that it's portable and can use it with other computers if needed.
KIND OF SLIM FROM THE PICTURE LOOKS LIKE IT IS LARGER BUT IS VERY SLIM BUT WORKS JUST FINE WOULD PURCHASE AGAIN ALSO THERE IS NO STAND AS SHOWN IN THE PICTURE
I bought this to capture music CDs to iTunes on my new PC running Windows 8. It interfaces well to the machine and the speed is reasonable. Does require 2 USB ports and the cords are short. I've not tried extension cords. Lack of the pictured stand is not an issue unless you are really space limited. 2 weeks old but working fine.
This unit DOES NOT INCLUDE THE STAND. I read the response ASUS wrote about the stand, and understood from the response I would receive a stand. In the location I was going to place the unit, a stand would have been required. Also the advertisement does not tell you the unit requires two USB ports. The unit is also very loud, sounds cheaply built, and performance is lackluster at best. It is in my outside dumpster as I type this.
It says Mac compatible and apparently it is, but not for my system. Very strange. My iMac is running 10.8.5, not the newest, not the oldest. So what's the problem? Asus tech support says I need to update my computer. Nah, I'll return it. They have no drivers to assist me. Nothing for me to download. I think that's also rather strange. And I think the box and the specifications ought to say with which operating systems this unit is - and is not - compatible. Too bad. Looks like a good unit, but not for my Mac. Hopefully you'll have better luck with it.
Ok we bought a laptop from Walmart that didn't have a DVD player with the intent of using this external hd, but no it's not compatible with windows 8.1
