Delicious pie crust. I used half shortening and half butter. Much better flavor than regular shortening and butter crusts. I found this to be smooth and not gritty like another reviewer mentioned.
i wouldnt eat it but makes lovely soap.
a nice clean taste. no complaints with this product and a nice price from walmart.
Shortening comprised of mostly beef tallow, lard and soy oil. I've been looking to fry in beef tallow for the health benefits, higher smoke point and neutral flavor. This is a very well priced product that gave me a very nice crispy finish to my fried chicken and french fries without imparting any negative flavor. I think it would also be excellent in baking as well. This is going to replace my use of Vegetable shortening, who's flavor I don't really like plus the negative health affects of it. I hope WalMart continues to make this available in the future.
It works amazingly to make buttercream frosting and handling fondant
Absolutely the BEST!!! It has been out of stock and I really really miss it!!!
The flavor of this is amazingg! I've always used Crisco but I saw this at Walmart and decided to give it a try, especially since it was so much cheaper. The main difference I see with this is that it hardens when I put it in the refrigerator. It doesn't need to be refrigerated, but I only use shortening for pastries and most times it needs to be cold, so I opt to leave it in the fridge. When Crisco is in the refrigerator, it stays soft. I also like the container for this brand versus Crisco, because it is plastic and the Crisco container is the cardboard tpe, which has become grease-soaked before when not stored in the fridge. It bakes really well and the flavor is great. I think it would be nice to have a butter flavored one like Crisco has! :)
I do not eat fried foods often and have tried to eat healthy but the food just does not taste like it did when mother made her fried chicken. Saw GV lard and decided to try. So glad I did as chicken and FF taste so much better. I did check expiration date before leaving store since so many negative comments were on that issue. It is rarely available at my Walmart (probably good Southern women scooping up) so got it while I could as not long on shelf.
I am a home cake baker/decorator. This product was recommended in a YouTube video as being great for making icing because it's a high ratio shortening. Maybe the formula was changed from 2 years ago when that video was made but this stuff curdled my icing. I lost a great deal of powdered sugar because I thought it was my vanilla or something else. I never had this happen with GV all vegetable shortening.
I use to love this shortening but now everytime i buy it is gritty. I only use it to grease my cake pans but i am scared to use it because when i used it before and it was gritty my cake did not rise. Why should shortening be gritty and not smooth? It use to be smooth but now it is not.
