I have had this laptop for 24 hrs now. I think I am absolutely enjoying this experience. The 1920 x 1080 screen looks absolutely crisp, with the intel i7 8th gen and nvidia 1060 gtx max Q supporting awesome performance. The first game I tried was Hitman 2016, with all settings maxed out, it runs perfectly smooth without a hitch. This is a "sleeper" gaming laptop, it has performance hidden underneath its simplistic and modest design. You could take this laptop to your neighborhood café or library and look serious, no one would notice this was a gaming laptop capable of so much more. Kind of goes with the whole 'silent assassin' theme lol. I look forward to discovering what else this sleeper can do. Definitely recommend to people looking for a gaming laptop on a budget. You wont regret it.
Okay, nice plain understated design, not garish red and black and multi coloured lights, which is great as I'm an electrical engineer and have to whip out my laptop for meetings. Fans are a bit loud, it's worrying how little air vent area there is allocated though. Keyboard feels just right, I mostly do cad and reports, bit of gaming when the boss ain't looking. I'm a bit blind so can't really judge the screen all too well. Do I get a free 8Gb so-dimm ram module for this lovely review :-D please? hahaha nice laptop, great price, for the cheapie engineer who likes to play boring games like war thunder and racing sims
I have nothing bad to say about it really. The only thing that's weird to me is while unplugged, even with maximum performance settings for the battery, games don't run very well. Plugged in however it easily out does my old Alienware 15 (2015). Most games on ultra settings never go below 30fps. The laptop is plastic, but solid. It doesn't feel easily breakable even though its pretty slim. Having a gaming laptop with this performance, that's this slim, and not insanely expensive is great.
Overall, I like this laptop. But, I have run into an issue with it playing a specific game (playing games is why I got this device). Although I haven't finished installing everything I plan to play on this laptop, when I did install Destiny 2, it is pretty unplayable. Due to the dual video card configuration, the game attempts to launch but only displays a black window. I have discovered a way to make the game display, but those are hoops that I shouldn't have to jump through, just to play a game. We'll see if I have this issue with any other games, but right now that's the only one.
Overall its a descent at best laptop .its a entry level laptop designed for gaming and basic use . Now here's why I give it 3 stars the gaming overall runs well but the laptop does get hot really quick not enough to shut the pc down but u will here the fans and the keyboard does get warm after a bit of use around 1 hour . The screen overall is not that bad but if u want the upgraded screen u need to go into the g5 and up .The keys feel solid but I find myself slipping keys when gaming since they are very shallow. the overall performance of the machine runs really well with the 8th gen I-5 . So if your looking at a casual machine to play on the go its functional but if your looking for extensive gaming on it I would go into the higher end machines probably build for heat and such . Would I recommend this unit only for the casual gamer, defiantly not for a extensive gamer If you use it for school and such its a great pc .
So I notices that sometimes the HDMI connector either stops functioning (I wont get an image on the second screen) or it just does not work (connecting HDMI will not duplicate the screen), I have to restart it in order for it to work. Also at one point I got a blue screen while trying to recover the laptop from Openning, It took about 15 minutes to recover.
brand new outa the box, even after messing with some configurations I cant get even simple games to run smoothly. ive noticed a lot of random programs sucking up my ram usage, specifically anti malware, putting me at a minimum of 30% RAM used (usualy closer to 40% of a 16 MB RAM COMPUTER), without even having a single thing open on my desktop. easier games like Minecraft fail to run at a reasonable frame rate, especialy for the lofty price of this computer I really expected more. Customers shouldn't experience simple problems with new devices, im mildly technically inclined and I still have no idea how to solve my issues. Its a rip off to new customers.
Just out of the box network problems. could not connect using RDP or TeamViewer because of SmartByte. I had to remove SmartByte to fix the problem. After fixing the first problem, wifi started switching on and off like crazy. Maybe because I did switch some security settings OFF. I had to change adapter roaming parameter to fix it...The network was back perfect. I had to wait until I had an important Skype meeting so the dam wifi card start bugging again...
So, most will think I am running some gigantic software, a game or something that devours resources, but sadly, I am just running Picasa and Open Office along with the Opera browser. From transferring Facebook Notes from Facebook to Open Office, this laptop freezes several times a day. Once this project is over, either Dell fixes or replaces this lame computer, or I never use another Dell again.
Randomly crashes, with blue screen of death (DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE and VIDEO DXGKRNL FATAL ERROR). Also sometimes when you turn the laptop on or restart it the Dell logo stays on the screen for about 10 minutes and the laptop is unresponsive. I am sorry that I bought this Dell laptop and I cannot recommend Dell products after this experience and I may seek my money back and buy a different brand!
