I bought 2 of these racks to organize the garage. Very easy to assemble and durable!
Not hard to put together - you need 2 people - no doubt about it. As for hard to fit together - they are designed that way - that's what gives them rigidity without cross supports. The key to putting them together is DON'T hit the rails themselves to set them - use a block of wood - put it over the bar and smack with a hammer - a rubber mallet works great - the bar will seat and it will be very sturdy and tight - just what you want. We have these in our garage, our basement storage area and our laundry room - they hold tons of stuff and we varied the shelf spacing for max versatility. And yes - the bottom shelf and the shelf in the middle have to in one spot - but that's not a big deal. We literally have 100's of pounds of "stuff' on these units
I've put quite a few of this brand of shelves together, and it's really a two-person job...all you need is a rubber mallet! These shelves are VERY sturdy...and they hold a LOT of stuff! I recently moved and I was concerned about the shelves slipping apart during the move...they did great! I would HIGHLY recommend this type and brand of shelves to anyone needing something long-lasting and sturdy!
I put this together alone in maybe 25 minutes. I had to rap a few of the shelf rails into place, but no excessive force needed at all; everything pretty much went into place. I could have used an extra hand a time or two, but no big problems. I put 3 coats of clear urethane on the shelves, and am using this product outdoors under a shelter. The only beef I have is that MDF used for the decking could be a tad thicker, but I suppose I should have gotten a heavier-duty unit, too.
Bought four of these--they came yesterday, had them fully assembled in about an hour--all four sets! Liked them so much that I ordered 5 more! Be sure to have your rubber mallet for assembly. They're not SUPER tough like the expensive ones, but each shelf will hold a ton of stuff and up to 700 pounds each. No screws--everything slides together--much easier than we thought it would be. 24 inch deep shelves are nice too.
The previous review said that while assembling the racks he bent the rails. I just put together thre units and am going back today for two more. se a block of wood over ther rail and hit the blosck of wood with the hammer. This way you won't bend the rails. I put them togetherby myself but it would be easier with two.
Easy to assemble and extremely sturdy. However, the box arrived beat to pieces with as much tape as cardboard. I'm glad I wasn't making the bench version because the pieces were missing for it. Great product, bad packaging and handling.
I find the frames sturdy, but the shelves are made of thick laminate, not metal. The box came torn on the sides, and pieces of wood shattered inside. They could have done a better packaging. Everything is loose inside, the little pieces could have gotten missing since the box itself is thin and torn. I will not order this item again.
This is the worst thing I have ever tried to put together. Had to use a hammer to put it together and often bent the brackets even when using a piece of wood and hammer. Maybe they put too much paint on the brackets or didn't take into account the dimensions after applying paint. These are going back and will not ever buy this brand again.
I've used Gorilla Racks in the past and have been pleased with them. However, this unit has a basic flaw that makes it unusable. The shelf bars are painted with a very hard powder coat material. During manufacturing they didn't cover the knobs that go into the slots on the vertical bars. As a result they are covered with a blob of material which makes it difficult or impossible to slide the knob into the slot. As a result I couldn't assemble the unit, and bent a few of the bars trying to hit them hard enough to seat them into the poles.
