We are building a music room for the boys band to practice in and needed a way to sound proof it . This soundproofing barrier seems to be doing the trick . It absorbs most of the sound and muffles the rest . It was easy to install and is serving its intended purpose.
Delivered quickly to my local Walmart, I used it to lower the noise of main PVC drain stack, the difference is noticeable, so I'm quite happy with the result.
We have been looking for something for my son's room. He does a lot of streaming and recordings of games and the noise level can get outrageous at times. This product works in his world as well, he doesn't hear me or the TV on which is amazing. Would recommend to anyone needing sound proofing
First, this product does have a scent that dissipates quickly after being left unrolled in a garage or other open area. Second, it is very heavy and if you're installing upright, you will need multiple people to hold it up. It is thick and thin if that makes sense; very dense as it should be. This stuff is very malleable when warm and conforms to spaces well. It also was quite easy to cut when it is warm. I left it out in the sun for a little while and had no issues cutting right through with a box cutter. I used this in the trunk of my car and floorboard under my carpet to deaden noise from highway driving and it worked 10x better than dynomat or other sound deadening products made specifically for auto applications. It was easy to cut to fit and melded into nooks and crannies very well. I couldn't be happier with the installation process and results!
Love this product! It was super easy to install, really works well and was easy to cut. I definitely plan on purchasing more to make our theater room completely sound proof.
Putting this stuff in a car with extensive road noise. Put a layer under the trunk hatch and already had made a diffrence. I have to find the glue to put it on the doors but looking forward to getting the rest of it put in to quietn down the rest of the car.
I'm surprised how well this worked. It was put on the ceiling in the basement to help dull some of the noise of my son playing guitar and video games. Normal noises like talking or low volume TV, I couldn't even hear, and it really dulled the loud noises. It was quite heavy to put up on the ceiling just holding it, so he made a ''T'' pole with 2'X4's similar to what you'd use putting drywall on a ceiling.
The first thing I found about this product is that it's not kidding about being "mass loaded" or weighing 1 lb per square foot! Unfortunately, this caused me a great deal of trouble even getting the 40-foot roll of it into the house. I had to pry the box off of the floor with the toe of a hand truck. It also means that there's no way one person can install it as a single strip unless they're Mr. Universe. Instead, it needs to be cut down into smaller, lighter sections. No instructions were included with the product. It's always a problem when a manufacturer assumes that everyone already knows how to use their item, especially when it's something that's fairly obscure to most people, as this is. When I looked online, I saw that many install it prior to the installation of drywall! Since my house is already fully-built, it's too late for that. It'll have to go on top of the drywall instead of behind it. Then, I saw that some say that even a 1-inch gap in the installation will reduce effectiveness by 50 percent. That's a real bummer. In any case, I agree with online assessments that say this is best for stopping noise from between rooms, rather than outside. Still, I'm hoping that once I get the bedroom wall facing my neighbor (an exterior wall) done, it'll block at least some of the hammering noise he makes with his projects. He hasn't hammered since I got this, so until he does, I won't know if it's powerful enough to do that job.
