This CD is so amazing. The beauty of these voices, and the harmonies simply put your mind at ease. My husband and I played the CD this past weekend in our home and we simply relished the calmness and beauty that this music evokes. Amazing Grace is our personal favorite. They sing all of the verses, and it reminded me of days back when - When Amazing Grace was sung with each of the verses... So gorgeous. I cannot say enough about this wonderful CD. If you love opera, beautiful harmonies, music full of love and soul - this is the CD for you.
I was unfamiliar with IL Divo and now I notice the music everywhere. Worth listening to especially if you enjoy the harmony of beautiful voices singing familiar music. Although most of the songs are not sung in English, I was familiar with the tunes and enjoyed listening to the soothing sound of Spanish. Amazing Grace is sung in English and it is magnificent. This is well worth listening to.
I bought this CD for my Mom. There are two versions. One in English, one in French. The website was not specific, so I purchased the one in French. She loves the sound, but doesn't understand one word, except the last song of course, which is amazing grace. I'd like to make this right for my Mom, what do you suggest? Thanks so much
This is a beautiful album. My favorite songs were “Halleluiah” and “Amazing Grace” but the whole album was enjoyable. Many of the songs are familiar however Il Divo's interpretation gives each one a new spin. This would make wonderful dinner music or music for a cocktail party. I was disappointed that “Amazing Grace” was in English as it is not on the commercial for the CD. I shared this CD with my mother, a long time Il Divo fan, and she loved it!
I received The Promise in the mail to review and tell my honest opinion with others. I opened it up right away and popped it into my laptop. The music was very calm, relaxing and soothing. I loved listening to it while working on my computer. While listening to it I envisioned myself curled up on a rainy day with a book, cup of coffee and relaxing. I would suggest this to anyone who wants something relaxing to put on to get away from the busy lives we all lead.
This CD is just what I needed. I am a stay at home mom to 2 busy little boys and by the end of the day, I need my mommy time. So, I grab my bath salts, scented candles and Il Divo The Promise CD and I take a long, much needed bath. The music is so soft and soothing, helping to calm my nerves and relax easier.
This CD was given to me as a gift. I had never actually heard Il Divo's music before listening to this disc. The listening experience was nice. Their voices are beautiful as well as the music. Most of the songs are sung in Spanish and they are songs that other artists have done before. I would love to hear them sing more original music in English. The song Hallelujah was my favorite.
After all the hype I have heard about their previous albums, I was very excited to sit down and listen to my first Il Divo CD. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. I can best describe the album as "not bad". There are definitely shining moments throughout the album, such as: Adagio--one of the most gorgeous melodies written by Albinoni. I am very familiar with the original instrumental version, but was impressed with the vocals and the arrangement. L'Alba del Mondo--like many of the other songs, it starts out beautiful, with a nice instrumental introduction. The melody is gorgeous, but like MANY of the other songs, the ending is a bit over the top. The opening of Amazing Grace--I'm not sure who sang the opening verse but it was amazing! He sang with such clarity and purity and made such a simple opening very moving. And the bagpipes were unexpectedly a very nice instrumentation for the piece. There were several reasons that I felt disappointed with the album. One was the song selection. There was a nice variety of classical and pop, but almost all the songs were the same slow tempo! I also don't really understand the reasoning for changing the original languages to the songs. There was really no reason to change everything into Spanish or Italian (except for Amazing Grace in English). But my biggest issue with almost every song on this album, even Amazing Grace which opened with such an amazing opening, was that the musical climaxes were OVER THE TOP! The arrangements were poor, and almost every song had a huge, over the top harmonic climax which was never prepared for properly Almost every song, it came out of NOWHERE and felt like they just threw it in to show how loud they could sing (though I'm sure the men of Il Divo did not throw it in, I blame the producers and arrangers for that tackiness). My final recommendation...it's not a bad album, there are wonderful songs and moments, but not enough to warrant buying the whole album. Better to buy individual tracks from itunes and perhaps invest in one of their other albums.
This is my first Il Divo CD to own and while I liked it OK, only 2 songs were execeptional in my book- Hallejuah and Amazing Grace. There were 3 more that were pleasant enough and then a few songs that I just had to hit the forward button a they couldn't hold my interest. Overall, I am intrigued by Il Divo and would like to check out some of their earlier albums as they might be more pleasing to me. On the other hand, I let my mother-in-law listen to this CD and she absolutely loved it!
I expected more from them, as I absolutely loved their previous release, but was slighty dissapointed with this current release. It's a bit more mellow, but really showcases their great harmony. There's a few tracks that are really great, such as track 2 and track 9. I can't wait for their next release!!!
