We had another gps system that was stolen with our car. My husband really appreciates the ease of use and lifetime map updates. This product was less expensive than the first and offers more!
Mainly got it for work. Quick & easy to use in a hurry. Map updates are going to great as well.
This gps is the best ive ever owned. I deliver pizza And this is a life saver. Very quick to give directions and lifetime map updates is a plus
I bought this to replace my Garmin 680 whose touch screen decided to quit working. Pro's- I like how I can see speed/time, etc. data can be seen on the same screen as the map, and I also like the lane assist view, but understand Garmin now has that as well on their new models. Con's- Number one, and the reason I'm returning it, is the permanently attached suction cup. This makes it a real pain to use, as I have to not only lick the cup every time I want to use it, but also have to contort and find the right angle to get it to mount properly while fiddling with the dial that tightens the cup. This is a two-handed procedure, and is just too much to handle every time I drive (I like to use my GPS on all drives, even if I know where I'm going). Number 2 con, the cable is something else I have to deal with every day; I don't want to leave my whole GPS mounted 24/7, but with my old garmin I could leave the suction mount and cable attached, and simply remove the unit and bring it inside, put it in my console, etc. one-handed, easy to handle; I can't do that anymore. Number 3, as with many others (reviews read on other sites), the computer can't recognize it in order to update maps/add funny voices (one of the reasons I wanted to try TomTom), etc. I haven't/aren't even going to bother with customer support, as I've read many, many negative reviews about tomtom customer support. Number 4, touchscreen has a slight lag that I didn't expect on a new line of units; it's sooo 2008. Bottom line, Sam's has a Garmin with lifetime maps, traffic, slightly bigger screen, and (hopefully) simpler mounting system. If you plan to leave the whole unit permanently attached to your windshield, and don't care to update your maps, this unit may be for you, otherwise it's sayonara tomtom.
I had a TomTom XXL - I loved it. After sitting on my dashboard (not recommended) for over 2 years, the screen started to have pixel issues. I bought a VIA 1405M. Lifetime maps seemed important at the time. You can't add voices, Points of Interest on this model. You can't display any of your specific POI (like Sam's Clubs) Now they are having satelite issues. It takes 20 minutes or longer to get a satelite signal. Sometimes it doesn't get one at all! I am about to give up on TomTom and try someone else's GPS.
This item was missing the dash mounting disc and when I called customer service they told me to go back to Walmart . They refused to mail me one, so I did go back to Walmart, returned it and bought a different brand. I don't need to do business with a company that has that kind of customer service.
could not hear it. even turned up all the way could not hear it. returned to a store and got the more expensive one and paid the difference. had to return and got a tom tom start like I already have in my truck and love it
I have purchased TomToms before for my business trucks and they worked great. I purchased this one and was excited to use it on a recent long trip. I should have known something was amiss as it froze up before the trip when we were getting it registered and set to use. We got it to work for the beginning of the trip. At one point, it lost battery power and clicked off....that was the last time the darn thing could ever locate the GPS signal and literally was looking for the GPS signal all the way home (12-14 hour trip). I like the TomTom brand but will read reviews on specific models first before getting the next model (after returning this one). Thought the price/value was appropriate but the frustration wasn't worth double the price.
I have only had this tom tom two weeks and it keeps getting my home address wrong four times it has tried to take me 5 miles from correct address.
I've had purchased a couple of TomToms in in the last few years and they were easy to use and update. The new Via line takes hours to update if you can successfully do so according to other reviews. After spending two evenings updating it, I'm giving up and am going to purchase a Garmin instead! I was not able to update the maps at all, and the "MyTomTom" app erased the original maps. The device has become an expensive paperweight.
