I have had this for a short time but I used it on a road trip and it worked perfectly. I downloaded the software from Magellan website to my pc and updated the maps and traffic alerts in about 45 minutes and I had no problems. For a refurbished product , this is really a good buy, it comes with the car adapter, usb plug and windshield mount. Also, it came packaged in original box with owners manual. You do have to type in your addresses and it does not have a 3d road view like some of the more updated models, but for a lower cost gps this works for me.
I have owned several GPS units in the past, Tom Tom & Garmin.. My Garmin got broke last year on a trip to Texas and preparing for my trip to New York this coming July, I decided to try this refurbished Magellan instead of spending another $100 on a Garmin.. I have been using it for the past week in town everywhere I go just to get use to it and make sure it will be efficient when I go out of town.. It has not let me down at all! For the price of $45 it can't be beat and it does hold up to the more expensive units out there.. It's simple, light weight and slim..
very good price for this GPS but when i opened it and put it all together the mount was the wrong one so i contacted Magellan and explained the issue and they sent me a new mount for it it was an error in packing it they had the wrong part in the bag inside other than that issue it works great and was not fault on Wal-Mart but fault on packaging at Magellan when packed and they fixed the problem right away very happy with all this
Bought this refurbished magellon GPS before a 50- hour, 10 day, road trip. We found that it was well worth the money. This GPS it gives good directional commands without needing to take your eyes off the road. One negative was that the route calculation time takes longer than our other old brand name- garmin and the free map- update downloaded, was over 2 hours long. These are the small reasons i did not give a 5 star rating. but again the gps performed well on our trip with no incidents. We found the refurbished unit was exceptional value to the new model and I would still purchase this model again if given the chance. hope this helps you.
So far it is ok..only problem is that its not recalculating the route immidietly if you miss a turn,.another problem is when you start from a parking lot, it doesnot say wheather to take left or right on any road..it just says continue on xyz road for xy miles and turn left.. Other than that its good..on highway it highlights the road to go where there is a confusing road..also it tells you which lane to drive for taking the exit...
I downloaded the Content Manager and registered this unit. Then I went through the map update process. It took hours. That was ok and I did get it done. However, the unit is so slow that you have to wait and wait to enter data for the address book. Every character is delayed. Also, the boot-up is very slow. I am displeased with this unit and I intend to replace it with something else.
The GPS would never even turn on.. wouldn't boot up pass the usb charge screen. Charged for 24 hrs and still nothing. Wal-Mart returned the item with no hassle was just a waste of my time and got my hopes up for thinking I was getting a great deal...you know the saying..you get what you pay for
The Magellan 5230t-lm I purchased was refurbished. It did not work properly. The E.T.A. gave erroneous information and the routes that this unit suggested didn't make any sense. Maybe it wasn't refurbished properly. I returned the unit at Wal Mart on Merritt Island. I am now looking to buy a Garmin G.P.S. I hope the Garmin will work properly.
Received GPS device couple weeks ago. Would not load up menu. Stuck on trying to load menu. Spent 1 1/2 hours on phone to talk to someone at Magellen. Called again and after 1 hour of waiting tried chat instead. Was informed that I can return the device to them and they will replace it. Spent about $11.00 on shipping. Received last Thursday but was told it would be up to 9 business days before replacement item would be sent. I am on day 5. Still waiting and not a happy camper. Told some people I work with about my problems and they said for $44.00 you get what you pay for. For $144.00 you get one that works. In one of my numerous emails to Magellan I pointed out that even cheap stuff should work. Hopefully I will get the replacement device soon and be completely satisfied with how it works. Will see.
After following the directions for updating the maps, I was directed to restart the unit, it would not even cut on . Megellan was not much help. I would recommend buying a new unite.
