Love that I can make it compact with a tap of my foot!
We have had trash compactors in our homes for over 20 years, this is our first GE, and it's looking to be our best.
I wish this had a feature to push down and hold down to compact. Our old one has that and it compacted much better. This compactor is good, but not great.
This compactor is okay but I guess because I bought a cabinet ready compactor to match my kitchen it really only opens by the foot pedal which quite often it will start running while attempting to open it. Very sensitive. Also when opening with the foot pedal the door kind of bounces out and vibrates. Very annoying. My old compactor glided out smoothly. I put a cabinet handle on the door front for appearance purposes and occasionally I can pull it open but most of the time it starts running on it's own doing this as well wasting more of my time. Also the brackets I was given to attach the compactor to the counter top do not hold it securely and it moves around. I need to adjust it occasionally to keep it lined up with the cabinets. My old compactor worked great but when I remodeled I bought the GE because my appliance guy said it was a better unit. Hopefully I will get the 20 years out of this I got out of my old one.
Almost since we pitched the GE trash compactor we have had issues with the foot petal release mechanism. I my opinion it is a poor design although I am no engineer. The actual compactor works great.
I'm a bit disappointed with this product. We installed it less than 8 months ago and it's already broken. The lower ball bearing wheel disintegrated. The trash bin cannot be pushed in or pulled out making compacting impossible. Replacement wheel has been ordered twice, it hasn't arrived yet. I'm hoping a new wheel will be more durable and repair my compactor to proper working order.
The compactor smashes the trash for a hot second and then releases so trash doesn't stay compacted. It should have a feature that keeps trash compacted until you are ready to add more trash
We are very unhappy with this GE universal trash compactor! The pedal is very floppy and it ended up breaking down the first week we had it. Finally got a repair man to come take a look at it and he determined that he needed to order a new switch. Been waiting for that part for two weeks now! So I've had this trashcan picked her over a month and I've only used it one week in total. I would never recommend this to anyone!
I purchased this compactor not realizing how poor the equipment would be. The door is aligned too far to the left and the wheels are very loud
Poor quality, jams. Have had repaired for the same issue 4 times in less than a year! Didn't come with hardware to attach the panel. Called several times but never sent hardware
