Very satisfied with this compactor. Easy to install and operate. It can be locked in the downward position by pressing the off button, press the on button and it raises up so it can be opened or just let it go through its normal down and up cycle, Only downside is that its a little noisier than expected, Relative has been using her Whirpool for over 30 yrs now! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought about a month ago, happy with it's quietness but the 'start' button seems recessed and you need to push it hard, our previous Whirlpool did not have that issue but it was noisier!

After removing it from the carton correctly and installing it. The red button knob broke while turning it. Why? We don't know. Everything Else works so far. Nice product but not sure if we would purchase it again. Thank you.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We purchased this compactor to replce the Kitchen Aid Compactor we've had since we built our home in 1997. we were very pleased with our original compactor and since we heard that Whirlpool purchased Kitchen Aid we thought we would go with a compactor simular to the one originally had. The original compactor had two compacting functions. One was the compact and the other was compact solid. This many not explain it every well, the the new compactor, compact and releases the other we had compacts then we had to push a second button the release it. The one thing we are some what dissatisfied with is the noise. The new we just purchase is very loud.
