We built a house in Oklahoma in 2005 and this Whirlpool Trash Compactor was installed in our home. When we moved back to Texas in July 2019, we had our kitchen island extended to accommodate the same Whirlpool Trash Compactor. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is the second trash compactor I have bought. The first one quit working and the motor blew up. Replaced the motor and also the gear. Still did not work, so we decided to purchase a new one. Just hope the parts last longer than the old one did.

I'm pretty happy with this trash compactor so far. It holds far more than I expected. Fairly quiet operation. My only criticism is that I ordered a free-standing appliance, which fits perfectly and conveniently next to the kitchen island; however, the back is unfinished and clearly intended to be installed against a wall. I'm trying to figure out a way to camouflage it for a more aesthetic appearance. Otherwise, I think I made a good decision.
There are two holes on the top cover that look like something should be screwed into. I assume that these are there for the under counter conversion kit parts.I am using this GC900QPPQ compactor as a freestanding appliance. Unfortunately, these screw holes are ugly at best. Shouldn??t a white plug have been in these holes?
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We bought this trash compactor two months ago. The unit does not open more than one inch when the pedal is pressed and has to be pulled out. Similarly, it does not close smoothly and has to be pushed hard to close it. The performance of this unit is inferior to the Kenmore trash compactor we previously had.
