Great idea, poor execution

Printing the steps for the various components of volleyball (serving, passing, etc) on the ball was a great idea, but the ball itself is very poorly made. This ball is not official size. It is larger and much lighter than a standard ball or even a volley-lite ball. Its more like one of those old 'punch balloons' we used to play with as kids. The thin cover fits loosely over the bladder and you must fill it considerably or you get a 'baggy' look and feel to the ball. Think of a balloon inside of a plastic grocery bag - if you fill the balloon with enough air, it will fit snuggly inside the grocery bag - if you don't, the grocery bag will slide around over the balloon. Filling the ball with enough air to make the cover fit snuggly over the bladder contributes to its being oversized. This also makes it VERY bouncy. A light hit on this ball sends the ball sailing. The same hit on a volley-lite ball wouldn't even make it over the net. The cover material is smooth - more like the older versions of indoor volleyballs rather than the 'grippy' surface that's now common place. What I do like about the ball - the instructional steps printed on the ball are very clear and accurate. They show proper foot placement and movement. They show the contact points on your hands and forearms with the ball. They even indicate which leg/foot your weight should be on. The included instructions are very detailed and thorough. They also explain how to use the strike zones printed on the ball. I bought this ball to help my daughter practice for her 5th grade league, but if she practices on this ball, and then plays in the games with the official volley-lite ball, the difference in weight and size will certainly be a disadvantage. So we'll be sticking with the volley-lite ball - but we may use the ball for her team-mates to refer to for the instructions.
