I read countless reviews from others before deciding to purchase this model. I'm a woman who knows nothing about mens' razors--electric or manual--so I had to depend on the input of other buyers and their accouns of their experiences (for which I am very grateful, by the way, that people take the time to input that kind of information--it was tremendously helpful!) I admit, I was slightly concerned about some of the negative reviews I read, but I bought it anyway and kept the receipt in case my husband needed to return it. NO NEED! He tells me after shaving that he loves me just a little more, and will love me a little more tomorrow, because his face feels SO wonderful not only afterwards but during the experience as well (and it's a quick process--zip! zip! and he's done!). He's completely satisfied with it in all respects and very happy that he can just clean it by rinsing under hot water--no more dealing with a little "doll" brush with his thick fingers. Believe the positive, respect and dismiss the negative, and get this 8240 [Speed XL] electric razor!
I am 75 years old. I have never used a Razor other than the electric Norelco. Thru the years I have owned a few differant models. This is the best and fastest shaving one that I have ever owned. It gives the smothest and most complete shave ever. Obviously, I highly recommended it.
This is my 3rd Norelco rotary razor over the past 15 years or so. In the past I've stayed in the under $50 range because I couldn't really afford more. But, I shave EVERY day so I thought it was worth it to try a more expensive and hopefully better razor. This is a great shave. Closer than my old 6xxx series, even when new. When I started searching, I wanted to get the Norelco 7340 for $39 (around Christmas-time), but I missed that special price, and kept waiting for it to come around again, but it hasn't. If you're willing to spend the $100, I highly recommend this razor. Amazon was a little cheaper, but I spent the extra money at WalMart so I could easily return it if I wanted to. But I already know I'm keeping it. If you want to go about half the price, based on my research (but I've not used it), get the Norelco 7340 for around $52. Or, if you're lucky, maybe it'll be $39 again.
I've been using an electric razor for over 40 years now. I've used the foil razors and also the multiple head savers. For most part I have been a Norelco fan for many years. My older Norelco has been faithful and provided a good shave with replacing the shaver heads and cleaning the shaver head housing on a regular basis. I felt it was time for a new electric razor and again selected a Norelco 8240 XL. This shaver by far is the best one that I've ever owned. The instructions said that I could clean the shaver under running water, which was a major selling point for me. After my first shave, I will admit that I was a bit skeptical on placing an instrument that runs on electric power under running water. But it was still under warrantee and I gave it a quick rinse under the sink faucet. Not wanting water to stay inside the head assembly, I gave it a good shake to release the water droplets and stored the razor on an incline. Not to say that this procedure is necessary, but I just felt more comfortable to reduce any problems from water damage. Now to the shave. This razor is so much more quite than my older Norelco. At first I wasn't sure if the RPM's were getting up to operating speed. However the proof was in the shave. I was extremely impressed with the end result. In the past I have found that most electric razors don't cut the beard hairs that grown on the neck. This Norelco will cut the neck hairs but for me I have to stretch my neck skin a bit to get a smoother shaving surface. This razor is lightweight, cordless and charges quickly for someone that's on the go and doesn't want to stand in front of a mirror. I am extremely pleased with the Norelco 8240 XL would would highly recommend it's purchase to anyone that's in the market for a new electric razor.
Excellent, close shave and fast too! Only slight negative, don't like the cord. It's a bit shorter than past models and I don't care for how it sticks out from the wall once plugged in, would be better if it were flush to the wall. I will just have to get used to this type of cord. The razor itself is excellent, highly recommend!
I just purchased the shaver, and charged it overnite as required, and used it today for the first time. The results where great, I have used philips norelco razers for all of my shaving years, And this one rates at the top of the list i have used. I had a Cool Skin most recently untill it started to fail i started to shop for it's replacement. I have read several reviews and decided on the 8240XL and am very glad i did. I am very satisified with it and would recommened it to the fullest extent for anyone shopping for a great electric shaver
My wife got me this razor for Christmas and I am glad she did. It's perfect. -Very quiet motor. -Clean, fast, comfortable shave -The battery charge lasts at least a couple of weeks. Took it on a 10-day vacation and had no problems shaving 1-2 times a day while gone. I did start having a problem with odor coming from the razor after 5 days or so. I guess my tap water is not hot enough to disinfect. I started spraying alcohol inside the head compartment every 2-3 days and no longer have an issue with odor. Highly recommend to someone who does not want to pay extra money for unnecessary bells and whistles or give up large counter space for a charging/cleaning base.
The price is a little high but the end result is a good electric razor. Cuts fast and smooth.. Overall I am happy with this product. Easy to use Easy to clean can't ask for much more...
I have had several electric razors over the past 20 years and can safely say this one is the best of all of them. I am one of those guys that waits too long to replace the heads on mine because they are so over priced. My old razor was due for new heads (going on 2 years) and I just wanted to try something newer. Norelco makes the best electric razor in my opinion so I looked over the newer models available on-line. I didn't want anytning that shot out lotion or anything funky, just a shave. This one shaves closer and faster than my last Norelco which I had since 04. The 3 heads on this one have 3 cutters instead of the standard 1 on some of the other models which allow this one to cut closer and faster. The battery holds a long charge as well. The head on this one also pivots vertically which makes shaving under your neck a bit easier. After purchasing this one, I have been wondering why I waited so long to buy a new razor as I have cut my shaving time down considerably and am not getting the 5 o'clock shadow at noon. (I am tight with money). You will not be disappointed with this one. Well worth it.
I am surprised by all of the rave reviews about the 8240. I have used Norelco razors for over 20 years and this by far has been the worst model yet. First of all there is no way to tell how much time there is remaining the on the battery. Secondly, for being a new razor out of the box it is extremely loud compared to all of the other Norelco razors I have used. Lastly, and worst of all, the blades pull on the hair particularly under the chin and on the neck causing a sharp pain. Talk about getiing a wake up call early in the morning! I went ahead and replaced the razor with the Norelco 8270 that was only $5.00 more. The 8270 has a battery indicator, is much quiter, includes a nice charging stand, and provides a much smoother and closer shave. And the 8270 does not tug and pull at facial hair like the junky 8240 does. My suggestion; go out and buy the 8270 for a few dollars more and you will get a much higher quality razor and a much more comfortable shave.
