How do use it on the very first trip with it. Thank God, it wasn't for me! We really didn't want to spend the money on it, but due to running into rattlesnakes, I figured it would be best. Just do it!!!
I purchased this for flying general aviation. Not nearly as high as the big airlines but high enough that there isn't any cell phone service. While the plane is loaded with other Garmin gps devices, this is an extra layer of redundancy and it makes it nice in the event that my wife needs to get ahold of me.
Deep in the national forrest with no cell service can pose some doubt. Having the Garmin Mini 2 with me gives me that confidence that if I need help it's there. Also reassuring is that my wife and family can keep an eye on me as well. Being able to text back and fourth with them allows them to know I'm ok even though I'm hours and hours away from civilization. It's also nice to have when flying as it provides a back up emergency sos if the need ever arises.
I weekend backpack & day hike in the Colorado mountains year round and also do a yearly week long section hike of the Appalachian Trail. Some of the places I hike have no cell reception. This year I had 2 incidents in remote areas (no cell service) that made me question what I would of done if something went wrong. I also want to start out by saying that I always carry essentials in case of an emergency. The first incident was in late afternoon in a remote area of mountain on a rocky trail were a loose rack caused me to twist my ankle to a point where I thought I broke it. Luckily it was not broken and I was able to wrap it and hike out the 4 miles to my car. The second was an encounter with a Moose, I was rounding a bend in the trail and feeding on bush was a moose during rut season, probably 20 yards from me. The moose looked up and me and continued eating but I thought to myself what would of happened if it charged me. As a result of these incidents I wanted a way to communicate to others if I had no cell service and found myself in an emergency situation. I purchased an inReach Mini 2 several months ago and I can not tell you how much that has changed my mindset when I am out on the trail. I am able to check in with my family, along with a map of where I am and also have the peace of mind that if I get hurt that I have a way to get help. I would recommend it to anyone out there whether you have cell service or not. It also has many great features and a way to 2-way communicate.
I had the InReach mini from day one. I bought the new one for USB-C (one lesss cable) extra battery and backtrack. Mostly USB-C charging. Didn't need it much. My wife and few friends I keep in touch with while back country certainly love it., I wouldn't travel without one. I use the phone ap mostly to communicate but when my phone finally dies I still have a screen and a ton of preprogrammable messages I can send. Used this one for the first time for 2 weeks in October in Yosemite. the only communication that could even be called remotely reliable. I record tracks as well and use the garmin ap to share with people I know the route I'm taking and real time where I am.
I purchased the Mini 2 for an upcoming hunt trip to WY. The initial scout trip proved no cell reception in this area, I knew, for safety reasons I needed to purchase some type of satellite communication device. After researching, it was clear that the Garmin inReach mini 2 was what I needed, plus another member of our party had a Garmin inReach mini and I knew we would be able to communicate to one another should we get separated. I highly recommend this item. It worked as it should. I was able to text home to other family members as needed and communication between inReach to inReach, within our hunting party, was invaluable. I watched several hours of You Tube videos for tips and hints of how to use this item. Very pleased with this purchase. Looking forward to having this security available for our next hunt trip to MT.
I just got back from hunting up in Alaska where there was no cell service. This gave me the comfort of knowing that if anything happened I could reach out and get help. Also, it allowed me to stay in contact with my love ones back home. If you're venturing into the back country, this is a must. My son uses one also for when he's out exploring in Arizona and Utah and it's nice to know where he's at.
GPS City shipped me this device LIGHTNING FAST. I am stationed in Guam and things with batteries take an absolute eternity to get here (they usually get shipped via freight and come via boat). It really sucks. But, not with this item and not with GPS City. They got it to me in five days via Priority Mail and in perfect condition. I'll be back for more - thank you very much! GPS City is a five star seller. Buy with confidence.
I bought this because I do a lot of solo hunts and trail runs in Alaska! My wife was always worried about me and not being able to talk to me. Thing mini 2 works perfect and it give me peace of mind that if something happens, I have an emergency out.
My wife insisted I get the inReach Mini 2. I got it specifically for Scuba diving. She saw a couple of Scuba blog posts about divers getting lost at sea. The most important reason for getting the inReach is if you get separated for your dive boat. And Murphy's Law is true, it does happen. And even being out on the ocean on any vessel, I have the inReach with me. I also take with me Skiing, in case I crash off a trail where no one may see of notice me. And even in my North New Jersey location, there are plenty places not so far out that cell service is limited. So I have the inReach in the car all the time.
