Still Of The Night

When a man is brutally stabbed to death, only death, only his psychiatrist can expose the killer in this taut, "well acted and beautiful made" (Daily Variety) suspense thriller staring Roy Scheider and Best Actress Oscar - Winners Meryl Steep and Jessica Tandy. Dr. Sam Rice (Scheider) is a successful New York Psychiatrist who becomes unwittingly involved in a murder investigation after his client is found dead. First, the police come looking for answers, and then Brooke Reynolds (Steep), the deceased's beautiful, mysterious mistree, comes looking for a whole lot more! Defying objectivity, Rice succumbs to Brooke's innumerable charms, but soon begins to suspect that she knows more than she's letting on. Determined to solve the case, Rice, with the help of his therapist mother (Tandy), pours over session notes in search of clues. But with each step he takes towards uncovering the hidden secret...he falls ever more certainly into the killer's deadly trap. Written and directed by Kramer vs. Kramer's Robert Benton and filled with startling Hitchcock style nuances, "Still Of The Night" is an eerily staged and cleverly crafted mystery, a comtemporary thriller of the highest order.
