The Panasonic DMC-FZ8 features a 12x optical zoom Leica DC Vario-Elmarit lens (equivalent to 36mm to 432mm in a 35mm film camera). Panasonic's advanced Intelligent Image Stabilizer cures the blurs two ways. First, the MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) minimizes blurring caused by shaky hands, even when zooming. This Intelligent Image Stabilizer system combines with the high-resolution 7.2-megapixel image sensor and high-performance Venus Engine III image processor to deliver clear, sharp beautiful pictures.

I highly recommend this camera. i shopped around for about a week and a half before i made my decision. I can not be more satisfied. the pictures i have attatched on was taken @ a redlight on my way home from work and one was taken @ home but in a neighbors yard three houses down... I have used this camera a lot in the past two days and still have not had to charge the battery...

I finally decided to upgrade from a point and shoot digital, compromising between price and features, and replacing my old, trusty but now damaged Nikon F 35 mm. The DMC-FZ8 turned out to be an excellent choice. The plastic body didn't have the heft of the old Nikon, which took some getting used to. The controls are more complex than the Nikon, but the camera does much more. Those seem to be the only "bad" points. The optical zoom is excellent and the Leica lens goes to 12X with almost no edge distortion. Digital zoom is awesome. Setting the camera to 3 megapixels gets a tremendous 72X zoom. Optical stabilizer works great up to 12X, digital above 36X would benefit from a tripod. Pictures, from snapshot to wildlife closeups, have been excellent. Color balance and white balance are excellent. Shutter lag is acceptable and burst mode lets you take a picture about every second or less. It'll take some time to fully discover the camera's potential and ability but it will be worth the effort. Definitely recommend this unit for someone who wants to upgrade without breaking the bank.

AWESOME Camera!

I love this camera! It is an extremely good camera and helped me in every single way that I needed it to for the main purpose I bought it and it STILL is a GREAT camera. I don't have much to compare it to except for my parents' old digital camera, which is a Sony (not sure what kind, but it's an old one), and this is much better than that one, by far. This camera exceeded several of my expectations for it and did much better than I thought it would. The best thing about this camera, I would have to say, is the quality of the pictures it will take in the dark. The flash does an EXTREMELY good job, making this camera capture VERY good pictures in the dark. Another thing is the red-eye. I took a straight-on picture of my mom and of my best friend and neither had red-eye at all, with flash OR without. Like I said, this camera really impressed me and I would recommend it for anyone!

This camera is so awesome. 2 years back I got the same camera, but a 5 mega pixel, for christmas. I have worked in a photo lab for years and this camera blew other cameras away. Looking at the pictures it takes you would think the camera cost $1,000+. Unfortunately I lost it a few weeks back and didn't have the money to buy the newer model. So I tried a Poloroid 7.2mp w/ 3x optical zoom for $130. It was awefull, I returned it the next day. Then I bought a KodakM853- 8.2mp w/ 3x zoom, for $150 and it was ok, better than the Poloroid by far, but still not what I was looking for in a camera. I am pregnant with my first child and due any day. I wanted a camera that will take crisp clear pictures of my new baby girl. I returned the Kodak and spent the extra money on this Panasonic. MONEY WELL SPENT. The pictures are even better than my beloved 5mp that I lost which is hard to imagine. On my 19" computer monitor, blown up to full screen there is not a flaw in the pictures. They are beautiful. I can't wait to use it when my baby is born. Memories are priceless and this camera is the one you need to capture them.

I know it is not cheap but it is worth every penny. It has so many cool features (auto focus, stabilization, 12x optical zoom, black and white, and so many more) that it makes you look like a real photographer. I use it for work and play...Personal pictures look wonderful and work related photos make my presentations professional...defenetly a must have.

I have always been a Kodak person. Decided to try something differant, because I really like taking close up pics, and the Kodak camera's are a little bit fuzzy to me on them. MAN, this camera is REALLY sharp and clear. Wonderful pics. I LOVE it. So many settings to choose from. I am most pleased with the Macro.

THE CAMERA IS GREAT, CLEAR PICS, FAST RECOVERY TIME, CAN'T USE DIGITAL ZOOM IN ALL MODES. THE PHOTO PROCESSING SOFTWARE IS TERRIBLE, I BOUGHT COREL PAINT SHOP PRO PHOTO X2, I LIKE IT. OVER ALL THE CAMERA IS WORTH THE MONEY.

I have found that this camera takes very detailed pictures and the speed of capture to my satisfaction. For proof I offer 2 pictures taken at a motorcycle stunt wars competition. Note, The pictures I posted are much sharper on the computer and in print than what the internet displays.
