This collar is very sturdy and made of double ply material 3/4 around until you get to the handle. The handle is convenient, though I wouldn't recommend for constant use. At the handle part, it is then single ply, but the handle itself makes up for it with thick padding. The hardware is solid and sturdy and very well put together. The price for this quality couldn't be beat.
I love this collar with the built in leash. I can quickly and easily get control of my dog when strangers come up, without fumbling for a leash.
As a breeder of large dogs for over 20 years I have to rate ALL of the Bamboo products as top notch! The collar is a lifesaver, with its built-in hand hold, the matching leash a seat belt with bag holder, with zipper and space for change, covers the seat latch for comfort-every grooming product has 2 or 3 different uses-unbelievably inventive, useful, attractive and priced well below value! I cannot recommend the Bamboo line highly enough-wish I'd thought of all this-and I am hard to impress! I buy it all and am SO grateful these smart new products are available. HIGHLY recommended and a MUST BUY for my puppy owners. DogRbetter, Wal-Mart customer, Dog Breeder/Owner.
I would recommend this collar for any medium to extra large Dog. Just grab the built-in handle and your dog is under control. The short-leash aspect is great for training too.
I was impressed with the quality of the materials and hardware used on the collar. The idea of a quick-grab short leash is a good one. I ordered two of these for my two German Shepherds and both have been using them for a couple of weeks. The first problem i had was a very minor one. There's a little ID-tag pocket sewn onto the collar underneath the leash handle and the edges of it were catching and preventing the handle from retracting fully and lining up with the collar. I cut the stitching with a blade and removed the plastic pocket which resolved the issue. The pocket was of no use to me anyway and after looking at the quality of the other materials and workmanship, it seemed like this feature was an afterthought. A few days ago I let them in the backyard for ten minutes and when they came back in, the leash handle was gone from the smaller female's collar. The only thing left of the leash were two small bits of the elastic material hanging from the collar. I have no idea what happened, but I suspect it got caught on something when the dogs were playing which ripped it off. I question the strength of the elastic material on these collars and they might be better suited to smaller dogs. However, since I didn't see what happened, I can not say without a doubt that they are weak. Aside from the leash portion, I very much like the quality, materials , workmanship and appearance of these collars and I am going to continue to use the broken one as a traditional collar by trimming away the broken elastic. Even though I had problems, I don't regeret the purchase. I paid $8 each and I would pay that much for just the collar portion. I may buy another and give it another shot.
