Detailed product description

*Fish pictured are just examples of what you might get. Colors and patterns vary. The actual fish you get will be Josh's Frogs' choice, dependent on availability. Lives happily in desktop aquariums of 5 gallons or more Brightly colored, aesthetically pleasing Hardy and easy to care for Bold with lots of personality Recommended Enclosure Size: The minimum size aquarium for an adult betta is two gallons per fish. However, we highly recommend giving them at least 4-5 gallons per fish for a more spacious and stable environment. Filtration should be provided by a small external or internal filter, with gentle flow. Due to jumping risk, the ideal betta aquarium will be covered fully. However, they will still need some space between the surface of the water and the lid to allow them to breathe air. Although they have gills, they come from such oxygen poor water in the wild that they have evolved to rely more on atmospheric air. They can actually drown if they cannot reach the surface for a quick breath. Temperature: Bettas should be kept between 76-82 degrees fahrenheit. They can survive at cooler temperatures, but may be more lethargic and susceptible to disease, especially below 70 degrees. You will want to make sure you have a reliable heater and thermometer to maintain and monitor temps in the aquarium. pH/Hardness: Fancy bettas are not fussy in terms of pH, so long as their aquarium stays in the 6.0-8.0 range. Extremely acidic or basic water can be stressful to the fish. Neutral (7.0) to slightly acidic (6.8) is ideal, but it’s more important to have high water quality than to have a specific pH. Size: Most varieties of betta max out at around 3”, with the exception of giants which can get up to 5.” The fish you will receive is an adult fish at 2-3.” Age: At the time of purchase, your animal will be approximately 6 months to a year of age. A betta can live for five years or more given appropriate care. Feeding: Feeding Bettas is very straightforward. They happily consume floating pellets as their staple diet. As insectivores, they will appreciate the occasional treat of dried or frozen bloodworms, blackworms, or even live fruit flies! Be sure to remove anything uneaten in the aquarium after a few minutes. Social Behavior: Bettas are not social animals, and in fact may fight to the death if housed together. Therefore, it is recommended to keep them separately, especially the males. Females can occasionally be housed together with success, although they may still spar. Males and females should only be introduced for breeding purposes and immediately separated after the deed is done.
