Detailed product description

Name: The Celestial Pearl Danio, Celestichthys margaritatus. Also known as the “Galaxy Rasbora” , although it is now classified as a danionin. The scientific name translates to “heavenly fish adorned in pearls.” Recommended Enclosure Size: Celestial Pearl Danios can be kept in aquariums as small as 5 gallons for their entire life. This can house 6 fish. For bigger schools, a 10 gallon is ideal. They prefer lots of plant cover, as they are a rather shy fish. Temperature: 68-78 degrees fahrenheit is the range that CPD’s can tolerate. Ideal temps are between 72-75 degrees. If they are kept too warm, they will waste away rather quickly as this speeds up their metabolism. pH/Hardness: CPD’s prefer a more neutral pH in the 7.0-7.5 range, however, they can tolerate a little more acidic or slightly harder water. Size: At time of sale, your CPD will be at least 0.5” in length. CPD’s get only slightly bigger than that as adults, topping out at around 0.75.” Age: Your animal will be at least 3 months old at time of purchase. They can live up to 5 years when cared for properly. Feeding: Celestial pearl danios are somewhat omnivorous in the wild. In captivity, they readily eat small live and frozen foods, such as baby brine shrimp, microworms, and daphnia. They also will occasionally go after crushed flake foods, but this should not be their main diet if you want healthy animals. Sexing: CPD’s are sexually dimorphic in terms of coloration and shape. Males have more intense red coloration in the fins and darker blue on the body, whereas females are more muted. Females also are more rounded in the belly and have a black marking on the vent. Due to their age, Celestial Pearl Danios sold by Josh’s Frogs are sold as unsexed animals. Color/Pattern: Celestial pearl danios are often compared to brook trout in their appearance. They tend to have a blueish base color, with white spots and red streaks in the fins. At time of sale, your animals may not exhibit much color yet, but they will have the tell-tale pearly spots. Social Behavior: CPD’s prefer to be in groups and tend to be more bold when kept in groups of 6 or more. They do form loose schools and can often be seen flitting around the aquarium. Males will often spar, but they are not likely to harm one another. If kept with other species of fish, choose nano species when possible. Tiny rasboras, tetras, shrimp, catfish, and loaches often make the best tankmates.

Vibrant and colorful Peaceful community fish Stays small and thrives in planted nano tanks
