The Model: The model I am reviewing is the Brother DesignNCut DC200. Brother makes another model which is the DC200ULE, this review does not reflect. The Setup: You must setup an account with Brother DesignNCut and ScanNCut. Once you have an account, download and install DesignNCut Manager on your device. I downloaded and installed the DesignNCut Manager for my Windows 7, iPhone 6s and my iPad Mini 4 which runs iOS 9 or later. It is also available for the Android 5 or later. Follow the DesignNCut Manager to setup the connection and begin using it. About DesignNCut Connection: The DesignNCut is Wireless network ready. A wireless access point and/or router is required for Mac and iOS, except for Windows. The DesignNCut wireless network is compatible with the following wireless networks, 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac which covers pretty much all of them. You can direct connect using a USB printer cable for Windows 7,8.1,10. I used Windows 7while using the DesignNCut for this review. The Connection: I used a 6 foot USB Printer Cable to connect the DesignNCut directly to my Windows 7 PC. I did not use the Wireless connection except for testing setup on different devices. The wireless connection can be a bit of a fuss to get set up, but is doable. I found when the DesignNCut was turned off, sometimes It lost the wireless configuration and it had to be reconfigured, while other times it just reconnected without a hitch. So I decided to just directly connect my PC USB to the DesignNCut with a cable. I would like to mention, I am a 42 year computer scientist and pretty computer literate, having said that. I recommend using a cable as mentioned above to get you up and running faster and without re-connection issues. The Packaging: It came in a box with the following… The DesignNCut Model DC200, 1 Power Cord and power adapter, a 12” x 12” Standard Mat which has a sticky surface with CaptureMat function, Standard Cut Blade Holder with Standard Cut Blade installed (you can replace blades as they get dull, I ordered additional blades), a small plastic Spatula to help pry up the cut pieces from the Standard Mat, a Calibration Sheet for capturing a design. I used the 12" x 12" Standard Mat CaptureMat function to take a picture of my design with my phone and then used the same mat to cut out my design. I ordered the Pen Holder to be able to draw out the design which is very nice considering my drawing is horrible. After ordering, I noticed there are a number of accessories available. Capabilities: the device made me say Wow from my 1st sample cut. It is precise smooth cut was surprising to say the least. I am a DIY enthusiast, where now using this I am able to include my projects with materials I use such as vinyl, paper, fabric, felt, foam, plastic, poster board and thin leather. I was able to cut my logo into a thin piece of leather for a layout design which I will sew onto a waterproof 1000D Cordura material for a military type bag to add a little swag to my gear. I might add it cut it pretty quick too, I Love this thing. What a great tool to add to my Do-It-Yourself arsenal. It comes with a 1 year Limited Warranty. Would I recommend this product? Heck Yeah ! 2 Thumbs Up !!!
I was very excited about receiving the Brother DesignNCut DC200. I was also very nervous. I became even more overwhelmed once I started viewing tutorials. I bought some black vinyl and decided to jump right in. I read the safety precautions first. It took me a few days to figure out the DesignNCut is the upgraded version of ScanNCut. It does NOT come with a USB cable but I had one for my Brother sewing machine. Our internet connection is terrible so the USB connection is a working option for me. I wanted this product mainly for vinyl production of letters, sayings, etc. and for stencils. I may use it later along with my Brother sewing/embroidery machine. There are so many things one can make with this machine. I will be spending more money as I purchase accessories such as different colors of vinyl, weeding tools, blades but am looking forward to the personalized gifts I will be able to make. Love it! Take your time and enjoy! My first project was making labels for my canisters and the word Family with a heart for my wall. I do wish our local Walmart carried more of the accessories.
DesignNCut DC200 Home Electronic Cutting Machine is awesome. Wow, an answer to all my crafting - taking me to an an all new level. An affordable machine that can cut intricate designs and a wide variety of materials like paper, felt, fabric, foam, vinyl, iron-on, leather, plastic and poster board. It is hard to connect up and you might need help. You can use it wireless or connect with a USB cable to your computer. Once you get it connected it will take some time for you to learn how to do a lot of projects. I am still interested in learning. Wow, the things you can do with it - like wedding invitations, valentine designs, birthday invitations and so much more. I would recommend using a better mat for cutting because this one did not let you cut without sliding. But when I bought better mats it cut fine. I find this machine to be worth the price. I love seeing the projects after they are finished. It is of goid wuality. The only negative comments I have was hard to hook up. The positive comments would be all the things you can do with this machine. I love it. It is great machine to challenge your ability to accomplish great projects.
This machine can be used with a PC/MAC- go to http://sbrother/caqaa. With iPAD- IOS go to the app store and if you have an Android go to Google Play and type in the that website for the one you need to get set up. You can also hook up the scan n Cut to your pc buy using a USB CABLE.( NOT INCLUDED) Once you set up from your tablet or computer you can make the design , then send it to your Scan-n- Cut Machine to do the work. It comes with all the tools you need to get started. The cutting matt comes in a variety of different strengths in tackiness .This came with a weaker strength,it says standard, but I find it not tacky enough. I recommend a stronger tacky matt. because if your matt does not hold that paper down while its cutting, your paper or card stock will move and you will not be able to do the project. Remember to check the Cutting blade by twisting it to adjust to the paper you're using. all the directions are easy to follow. How ever you choose to set up your device to this machine, the rest is easy to do. You have great directions and that website above. It comes with guilds on how to adjust the blade and use the matts. it can be used for cutting cloth, card stock scrapbook paper, Vellum, poster board , fabrics and magnet paper. As long as you have the correct matt and cutter, you will want to make all kinds of projects

A little intimidating when you're taking it out of the box and attempting to set it up. There is a quick setup guide for the smart device you'll be using with your DesignNCut; desktop computer, an iPad or iPhone as well as an android phone. The project accessories this model comes with is a standard cutter and holder. If you're wanting to create something other than cutting something out, you will need to purchase additional holders for markers, embossers, and other project accessory kits. It does include a calibration sheet, a capture mat and plastic spatula for removing your cuttings and getting under the paper. Although it is and can work wireless, it does not come with a cord to connect it to your desktop or laptop. I wanted to hook up the DesignNCut directly with my laptop, because there was no cord included I decided to use my iPad instead. You will need to connect the DesignNCut directly with/to your Wi Fi router. If you're not computer savvy you may need a bit of help but if you've ever connected anything else which is WiFi you shouldn't have any issues. It may take a few tries but eventually you'll get it to work. Once connected follow all of the instructions, take no shortcuts and make sure you register and set up an account with Brother who will keep you informed of updates, instructional help, and free projects. The quick guide reference is excellent. It tells you what types of materials (paper, fabric and others) to use with which products; mat or sheet, which blade and/or holder to use, how to adjust the blade extension, and so much more information without having to search elsewhere for instructions. None of this will make sense unless you complete the entire set up process and are now ready to start using your machine. Be prepared, be patient, this may take an hour or more to completely set up and running properly. Take your time to connect to the Brother App, follow the instructions don't get frustrated and, just remember all the wonderful things you'll be able to do once you figure it all out. It is wise to spend some time watching videos on the many ways you may use the DesignNCut and I highly recommend doing so especially if you've never owned a cutting machine. Watching and learning what you can do with this Brother will get you inspired to create so many wonderful things. I've already started on a project book of ideas and can't wait to try each and every accessory made for this machine. I included a ruler in my picture so you can gauge the size of this machine. You will need room on your work surface not only for the machine but for the capture mat as well.
The DesignNcut is the complete cutting machine allowing you to control it through your own computer or other device. Why pay extra to have a built-in computer on the more expensive machines when you can use what you already have. Regarding the learning curve: It's very helpful if you are computer savvy but you don't have to be an expert. First of all, it is necessary to download the Design N Cut Manager application which is free. Another down-loadable tool allows you to change the cut and draw pressure, the cut and draw speed and the mat size you are using. I love the fact that you don't have to subscribe to a service of any sort to be able to use the machine. That service can turn into a money pit in no time. The machine is designed to cut, draw, as well as emboss and it is capable of using so many materials: paper, plastic, fabric, felt, foam vinyl, iron-on, leather and poster board. It appears to be the most affordable cutting machine available and quite versatile. It doesn't matter if you are a Sunday school teacher, crafter or whatever, cutting out things can get really tiresome when you have many to do or they are intricate but this machine can make your project simple and quickly finished.
I was excited about the DesignNCut. It seemed that it would be the answer to take my paper crafting to the next level. Warning - You need a bit of tech savvy, the effort to work out what you need to get connected and how to download the designs you want. I'm very grateful to Brother's Customer Support for walking me through the steps needed to create my first project. A few pointers/thoughts: 1. If you have an email address that ends with ".net" you need to create another ".com" address. Brother's "Welcome" message can't be sent to ".net" addresses. No email, no registration. 2. Once done, you're asked to open a separate account for ScanNCut Canvas. This allows you access to all their different project ideas. 3. You need to know your way around your own computer. It's going to take some patience to connect, download and launch the DesignNCut Manager, your link to the DC200. 4. That said and depending on the kind of computer you have, you might need the all important USB cable. 5. Please read your specs. After a FULL 3 days, I am registered, connected, and have downloaded the software I needed. Thank you so much, Customer Support, I have finally completed my own, very cute ScanNCut Canvas project.
The Brother website was down for server maintenance when I was ready to setup the DesingNCut. It was 7 hours later that the website was up and I was able to install the application software because the Quick Guide website provided wasn't working. Therefore, I Googled “Brother Design n Cut” and found another link to get the necessary downloads. It wasn't exactly easy to get started and I'd respectfully suggest the additional website should be provided for downloading the software. After the application software was downloaded, I moved on to the installation and connection of DesignNCut to my computer. I didn't use the recommended option from the connection interface because it wasn't picking up my wireless. Not being able to locate my Wifi to connect to the DesignN Cut wirelessly, I tried to do it via USB but that also proved to be difficult though the directions provided were being followed. This was definitely a difficult machine to connect to my device even with USB because when you initially select a wireless connection it continues to assume you want to connect wirelessly even though the USB selection was made. I don't know how I got it to figure out that I wanted the USB connection but I eventually got it connected to my computer via the USB cable. After finally being able to connect my DesignNCut to my computer, it then gave me another problem of associating the ScanNCutCanvas account (which I created specifically for this machine) to the DesignNCut software. So far, it's been very difficult to set up this machine and very frustrating to say the least. The directions though quite lengthy lack clarity. I will continue trying to make the connection and if the machine lives up to it's promises, then it will be worth the while.
I have delayed my review for as long as possible. I cannot get the DesignNCut, Home Electronic Cutting Machine By Brother, DC200 to work. I hooked it up wirelessly to my phone and it says my phone will not support it. I could not get it hooked up wirelessly to the computer, so I bought a USB cable and successfully got it connected. I cannot figure it out. I am nowhere near creating a project. This makes me sad because I was so excited about this machine. I'm sure a computer savvy person could figure it out, but I have not. I am not giving up, When I do get it figured out, I will give it another review. The cutting machine is pretty and looks like it would be a lot of fun.
