I can do most everything that I need to do and I really like the size and weight of this chromebook! It does take some learning. I use a password manager called Roboform and could not use that on the chromebook but discovered there was a lite version of Roboform and it worked great even though it was a little different. Overall, the chromebook is small enough and lightweight for traveling... unlike a laptop which is quite clumsy. The battery lasts very well and the chromebook turns on as soon as I open it. Would I recommend this to others? Yes, I would!
I ordered this toward the latter part of May 2016 for a Father's Day gift. My husband opened it up on Father's Day only for it to have a line going straight down the middle of the screen. Contacted customer service and they sent me postage paid labels to print off and send it back to them. The next day my replacement laptop was delivered via FedEx. Talk about fast...... My husband struggled for about a week trying to install Netflix on this laptop. But hallelujah he finally has it now. It had something to do with the updates....
My Acer worked superbly right out the box. Ease of use exceeded expectations. Quick, up to date software, and user friendly to boot. Getting it on rollback didn't hurt.
I have run a C720 for a little over a year. This boots up (counting the time to type my password) in 14 seconds. I now use this as my go to over my Windows PC, which for the most part collects dust. Is this good for you? If your purpose on the internet is to watch YouTube/Hulu videos, stream music, check email, basic web browsing, give this a try. The processor is snappy, being able to handle a few Hangouts chats, several Chrome tabs open while watching YouTube video and little stutter. The OS is sandboxed, so like an Android phone, it is relatively secure against viruses, and updates come from Google on average once every couple weeks. Once an update is complete, you are prompted for a restart (like Windows), but it is no different from turning off the CB and turning it back on...the 14 second turnaround is nice as opposed to the prolonged turnaround for Windows.
Bought this for my dad for his 80th birthday. He loves it because it is instantly on and easy to use and understand.
This chromebook is perfect for basic functions such as writing and browsing. It's also really quick and snappy when booting and loading.
Positive: I love this little laptop....it is soooooo fast! I purchased one 2 years ago for a gift and have discovered what a terrific laptop it is. I have connected peripherals via a usb hub and it is still really fast. Note: this is a Chromebook, not a traditional laptop. Negatives: (1) I have recently discovered that this laptop is a 2014 model. It has Chrome version 36 on it....the current version is 51. It will not update on its own. As per Google, I have to do a complete Recovery to bring it up to the current version. They have sent me the tools to do it, but I have not done so yet :( I am dreading it!! Do I want to return it for a newer version and spend the extra money???? or do I take a chance that all will go well??? I'm still thinking. I have purchased the 3 yr warranty. (2) I cannot get my classic printer to work with this laptop via usb. It does not want to recognize it. I may have to purchase a Chrome/Cloud Ready printer :( ... more money!!
I'm waiting for my second one to arrive as the first one, out of the box, had part of the keyboard that didn't work at all. Because of this problem, I couldn't even get past the first screen. I did like the look and feel of the machine so I'm hoping the replacement will meet my expectations.
The Chromebook overall was great, and I've had one before. I noticed on this one though, right away, that the mousepad was in and out, but it only happened for maybe 30 seconds at a time, so I thought it was our internet freezing up the computer. It started becoming longer periods of time, then quickly it was most of the day, so I just had my husband return it.
I bought this Chromebook in good faith, but it has a 2-year-old OS that cannot be updated, so many of its features do not work properly, including google docs. I ordered a replacement, but it had the same problem. And it was also built 2 whole years ago. So, if you want to know why it's so cheap, it;s because its processor is obsolete. Buyer beware!!!!
