Like every other comment on here. Super simple install, one bolt. I didn't use the bolt it came with the new tensioner, I just used the stock one. This fit perfect for my 1998 Chevrolet 1500 5.7.
This tensioner replaced another brand that was only six months old that our mechanic installed. I've replaced a few of these myself on my cars over the years. Super easy in a Yukon. The part comes with detailed instructions, so anyone will have the knowledge they need to replace it themselves, even if they've never done this before. Highly recommend!
Glad I replaced mine (did when I redid the radiator and water pump)... didn't have any symptoms but the original piece had stress cracks and the spring was weakened (~115k miles). Don't skimp... do it.
Thought my alternator was bad looked under hood and old tensioner was bad. Wow! that was alot easier and cheaper fix. They refunded the alternator too easy.
I drive 500 to over 1,000 miles each week and depend on the vehicles I drive. Any part I replace has to stand the test of time/miles. So far this part solved the issue of a noise and was east to install. It takes only 10-15 mins.
I had no idea what I was doing but this turned out to be surprisingly simple to install. I replace the belt tensioner, idler pulley and belt and since then it has been smooth and quiet. Look for coupon codes! I was able to but about $300 worth of parts for about $100!
The tensioner itself seemed well built. They sent a new bolt with a separate washer to be used instead of the OEM bolt. It would have been better with the bolt with built in washer like the original GM bolt. It would have made for a bit easier installation, but otherwise it appears to be a good unit. Overall: Satisfied.
It's a belt tensioner what do you expect, the real comments should be in one year. Then we'll know if if lasted or it's a normal pc from china that last about 6 mths. What really bugs me is how I stop at my local Parts Store the other day cause I had a engine light on, hey we don't do that anymore? I spend lot's of money buying parts from you guy's and you started this back in the garage deal for what so you could pull services from us? I know why your doing it but for us that spend money with your company you should over a special card for those that spend a certain amount each year to get special treatment like checking engine lights when needed. Whoever came up with this bright idea should fired, I wonder how much business you'll lose over this bad idea. Thanks, Not so happy Jerry
With belt tensioner pulled all the way, still couldn't get the belt installed. Unbolted the alternator which gave enough slack to install. No slack on tensioner with the belt installed. After driving a few miles, there was about 1/4" slack. I had lots of noise before installing and the old tensioner was wobbling a small amount. The new tensioner has no wobble and the noise is gone. I thought I had a bearing going bad in the alternator or idler pulley. Replaced idler pulleys first which was needed. Even the pulley on the belt tensioner. Live and learn.
My old tensioner did not have much tension on it and the new belt was squeaking. Replacing this part did not eliminate the squeak however. I think a little belt dressing may do the trick. It only squeals when it is first started up and the A/C is on.
