Bear Family, a German record label specializing in American roots music, has been moving into home-video releases, and one of their recent projects has been several DVD editions of rare material from Town Hall Party, a Los Angeles television series devoted to country & western music. This disc, featuring appearances by Johnny Cash and Tex Ritter, was transferred from kinescope film at the original full-screen aspect ratio of 1.33:1, while the audio is mastered in Dolby Digital Mono. The performances are in English, with no multiple language options, and no bonus materials have been included, though the accompanying booklet features a wealth of rare photos of stars from the show. While Bear Family has only been able to do so much with the quality of the decades-old footage here, much of the music is priceless and fans of vintage country will find this a fascinating time capsule.
