This gate is exactly what I was looking for. Needed something to keep my beagle out of the room while the kitties were eating and I could just step over and not have to take it down every day. The smaller gate works just great for them to go in and out as well. Great gate for the price.
For the price, it is the best value in a lightweight, sturdy household gate. I have purchased three over time and found that they are perfect for our pets. However, our dog is respectful of gates and does not try to knock them down or jump over them. We use them to give our cats their own eating and litter areas that the dog cannot breach.
I have a couple of puppies a small breed and an even smaller toy breed. When i purchased a step over gate made of wood, they chewed right through it. So time for a new gate. I bought another step over gate but as the small breed was getting bigger, he was able to jump over it. So I bought a tall gate but the spaces between the bars even at 2" width was just big enough for my toy breed to walk right through. Then I found this gate and its just tall enough for them not to jump over, the spaces are narrow enough to enclose the little one and its just short enough for me to still walk over and as an added bonus, it even has a pet gate. Oh, and its made of metal so no chewing through the bars. So having experienced many gate purchases from all price ranges. This was absolutely the best gate I have found at the absolute best price. Hooray for Carlson Products and kudos to Wal-Mart!
I needed a gate that was quick to remove but a tight fit when in place. This gate does that. It keeps my dogs out of the cat litter area but has a small door for the cats. It's short enough that I can walk over it.
This is an EXCELLENT METAL DOG GATE! It is very well made, easy to install plus has a small DOOR TO ALLOW KITTIES, PUPPIES OR SMALL ANIMALS TO ENTER OR EXIT WITHOUT NEEDING TO TAKE DOWN THE ENTIRE GATE!! Wish I knew about this door MANY YEARS AGO! PERFECT PROBLEM SOLVER!
great for doors only. if you are trying to put a gate for a wider space get something different. overall this is a great product, i just ordered the wrong thing.
Sturdy and easy to set up. Uses a large "nut and bolt" adjustment mechanism to secure to wall. It also has a very small "doggie" door that I have not been able to open yet. But it serves its purpose very well.
I had to adapt this for my needs (aka tear off a little plastic tab included on the thing with a screwdriver) so that it would fit in the doorway I needed it for, but now it's working great. I have it blocking off our dog from a bathroom I'm using as a litter room for our 2 cats, and the little door on it has made life really easy. We're in a rented home and I didn't want to deal with putting in a kitty door in the bathroom door, or going through the ordeal of buying another door to put on there with the kitty door installed on that one. Doors are cumbersome, this lightweight gate with built in kitty door was the perfect solution. Overall very glad I purchased. Price was very reasonable.
It is working ok as long as I put it at a slant. The walls are uneven in the house so I put one end on the doorway trim and the other on the wall and slide it towards me so it'll be tight. Like the pin that drops into the holes makes it easier to put the gate up and take it down. Use it at the bottom of the steps so our cat can have full excess to the house yet limits Goofie to the downstairs. Wouldn't recommend it for a tall dog as will be able to jump over the top of the gate.
It's important to keep in mind, first of all, this gate does not swing open. So, you must either climb over it, or take it down and put it up again, each time you leave the room. That doesn't sound bad, but here's the problem. The gate does not have a tight fit anywhere on my door frame, no matter where I place it. So, you might not think climbing over is a problem, but if you accidentally bump the gate, it always falls over, and since it doesn't fit properly, putting it up again is a hassle every time. The gate has pre-drilled holes the latch fits in, and none of the holes seem to be drilled in a good spot, so the gate does not fit properly in the doorway. It's always too loose. The gate is metal instead of wood, so that's a plus. And, it's inches shorter than the last gate I had, which I also had to climb over, so it's easier to climb, "sometimes". As my husband has demonstrated, you can still catch your foot and be thrown off balance. I was looking for something inexpensive but still sturdy and this fits the bill in that respect. But if it does not properly fit your doorway, it will continue to be an issue. I'll keep it since I have it already, but if I were looking for one again, I would look for a better option. That's my personal opinion, and I would not recommend it to a friend. Thanks.
