Best doorway baby gate

This is a great gate if you are looking for a pressure gate. The kids are not able to open it. It was easy to assemble without any tools. During installation you will be pushing the sides of the gate together as you are screwing the tension knobs tighter on each side. This will make the gate opening get smaller until the two sides of the gate, where the latch is, almost meet entirely. There are little grooves on each side of the gate where you lock it. These little grooves should be close enough when you flip the latch down so that they fit together and lock. This is what prevents your child from just figuring out how to lift the gate up without having to press the two buttons and lift the lever! I realized the spindle housing fits loosely in the housing as does the spindles into the spindle housing. They all tighten after tightening everything. The one bad thing about this gate is the bar across the bottom is it okay in a doorway, but not on the bottom step of a stairway. Of course when you step on that last step without shoes, it hurts! Plus once a child is old enough to walk down the stairs on his own, he may trip over the bar. If you do choose to use this gate on your stairs, note that if you are installing it on one of the spindles, you can use the tension knobs that come with it on the bottom. Long story short, I highly recommend it.

Great safety easy gate

This gate is crazy good! I absolutely love that I don't have to take it completely down to get through it (on the other side) each time I need to. That is my most favorite feature! It is super easy to install, it only took a few minutes to unpack it, line everything out and put it in. Considering how strong it is, it's fairly lightweight, and an ease to put up. This is perfect for using with small children and our canine babies. I wish I had gotten or had available to purchase this gate when our kids were babies. Now it's for the grandchildren, visitors and dogs. The swinging door feature of this gate is the tops, and it's not so simple that the kids open it, but easy for us to open. Making it easy to get through and keep the kids or dogs back and safe while you go through. Another really nice feature is the fact it can be used for much wider openings, and comes with the side panels if needed. Even the big pet gate we purchased years ago only fits a bigger door opening, not an entryway area like this gate does. I am very impressed, and since we have had this two others have them. When/if I have to block off areas again, this is the way to go, we have two areas of our living room that need a gate, and I am so very impressed with this one that if there are any more babies we will purchase the second one to block the stairway. This one just keeps them out of the kitchen. We are all very happy with this gate. My mom in her 70s wishes they had these when I was a toddler.

Great Gate!

This review is for the Kidco Gateway Pressure Mount Gate. I like this gate for the fact that it is so much easier to use than the older type of gates that had to be removed from the doorway to get through the opening. This gate stays in place. You only have to lift the handle and it swings open. Just like a real gate. It doesn't mark the doorways or walls. You can open it quickly as opposed to the older type of gates that you have to remove from the doorway to pass through. It's metal so it won't break easy. The basic gate fits an opening of 29” - 31 1/2”. There are two extensions included. One extension will make the gate fit 31 1/2” - 34 1/2” opening. Using both extensions you can have up to a 37” opening. I got this gate to use to keep my dog in the kitchen at times. He is a small dog approximately 14 pounds. The spacing in the rails is small enough to keep him from squirming through the gate.

So, this gate is made of high quality. We put it in our bathroom to keep our toddler out, because our door doesn't close. It has held well over the last 10 days. My husband had a hard time getting it set up. When he finally got it set up, our toddler immediately shook it and knocked it over. When you have set it up, let the kids have at it to make sure it's set up well. The gate part is a bit hard to open. Occasionally it requires two hands, which isn't always convenient. My older two kids (ages 5 and 7) can open it pretty easily. So if you have older kids, this gate wont be a problem for that. However, you have to make sure it latches right, or it will be easily pushed open. Overall, I don't know if I'd pay this much for this gate, when the $10 ones are easy to just step over and don't require opening. But if you prefer having a gate that opens, this will easily get the job done. It has kept my kid out of the bathroom very well

I like this type of gate for my pugs; I have one between the door and screen door so the pugs can't bolt out when someone comes to the door. Also nice to have a gate on the bedroom door to keep them from roaming the house at night, when company comes or when we're not home. I don't want anything permanent, so went with a pressure mounted, swing to open gate, and this Kidco gate has mostly met expectations. Pressure gates have a bar across the bottom of the gate so you have to step over. They are not suited at the top of stairs and do pose a trip hazard. All in all way better than the old gates you had to step over or remove all together. The overall quality is good. The product is white coated metal and seems fairly rugged. Only real issue I can see is that it is a two handed opening system that I find a little tricky. You won't be able to carry a baby or anything for that matter while opening the gate. That might not be very convenient. The instructions aren't the best but I was able to install the gate myself in about 10 minutes. I've had a couple other pressure gates, but have never had one that latches like this one does. The tightening knobs have small grooves to aid in tightening. I think they are too small and smooth so I had to get the pliers to help grip while I turned them tight. Once I got it adjusted correctly it was good and tight. There is a notch and grooves on each side of the gate where you lock it. These should be lined up and close enough so when you flip the latch down they will fit together and lock. I discovered if they are not close enough the gate can be lifted and opened without using the latch at all. To open this gate press the two buttons on either side of the latch inward and at the same time raise the latch up and then you lift the gate up and push/pull to open. Not my favorite system but once I get used to it I might not mind it. I do like that the door swings in either direction. I didn't need them but if you have a wider opening, there are two extensions supplied. Overall, this is a good product for the price and if you need to put a gate in a sturdy opening this is a good choice.

Very Sturdy & Hard to Climb

I thought this would be easy for my son to open. It actually can not be opened by our 16 month old son. It is very easy for us to open. It can open either way easily for an adult, it opens both ways. There is a clasp at the top side that you open and push the gate. Our son can not quite figure out how to open it yet. It is the only gate that we have that he can not get through. When I lock him in the living room he tries to climb it, but, just slides down. It is very sturdy and locks down on 4 large clamps. Two on the bottom and two on the top. I do believe that our son will be able to figure out how to open this gate with in a year or so. I do like the fact that the gate is taller than most. I love the fact that it has straight up and down bars, which make it impossible for our son to climb. I think this gate is made much better than the wood ones that we already had. I think this gate is worth buying. I wish they made much longer ones, because we have an 8 foot opening that needs a gate.

A good sturdy gate for toddlers and pets

I recently received this product for my pet. The directions were a little confusing, but we managed to put it together. It says it doesn't hurt your walls, but it actually scraped the paint off of mine. Be careful not to hang on it because of that reason. That's the reason I gave it four stars. It is very sturdy which surprised me. I would recommend this gate because of the quality and sturdiness.

The main issue the bothers me is the lock on the gate. I have yet been unable to open the gate without using both hands. What mom doesn't always have a baby or something in their hands. The pieces that they give you for slightly bigger entrances slide and A small child can fit their head or a small dog can squeeze through. Mygate came damaged in the mail so that was not a plus. The wall mounts eventually move when pressure is placed upon the gate. A persistent toddler can knock over the gate. I recommend parents use caution when purchasing this gate there are better gates on the market at much better prices

Broke within 1 week of setting up. Like other reviews said, it's very hard to open with one hand. You have to press a button on either side of the handle and then lift. But the buttons are weird and don't press well, and the handle is far from the buttons. If you had very large hands and strong fingers, maybe you could do it.

There are a few things that make this a no-go for me. The first thing are the instructions. When you open up the product you have all of these seemingly random parts. You will of course look to the instructions, but the instructions only tell you what goes where. What they do not tell you, is that you have to rotate the ends until the product fits. They also supply extension parts for larger areas, but once again the instructions fail you. The instructions don't actually tell you how to put this together with the extensions provided. For that you have to go to their YouTube page and watch videos on that. Once you have everything where it's needed, you think "great" nothing can get past here". But, you'd be wrong. All you have to do is lift the gate part and it swings open. A 1 year old can figure that out! This product should not be marketed as a child restraint, it should be marketed as a pet gate which, as you see from the pictures, is what I'm using it for.
