Detailed product description

*Fish pictured are just examples of what you might get. Colors and patterns vary. The actual fish you get will be Josh's Frogs' choice, dependent on availability. Name: Pelvicachromis taeniatus “Nigerian Red” or the Striped Kribensis. Nigerian Red is a tank bred variant of the species P. taeniatus, with over a dozen different varieties total found in the wild. The genus “Pelvicachromis” loosely translates to “pelvis/belly” and “perch-like fish.” This may be referring to the brightly colored bellies the female Pelvicachromis are known for. P. taeniatus is closely related to the common krib P. pulcher. Recommended Enclosure Size: Minimum aquarium size for one pair of striped kribs is 10 gallons. More can be housed in an aquarium of 20 gallons or larger, however if two pairs form they should have at least 40 gallons as they can be territorial. Temperature: Striped kribs prefer typical tropical aquarium temperatures of 72-80 degrees fahrenheit. Ideally keeping it closer to 76-78 degrees. pH/Hardness: More neutral to acidic water is ideal for striped kribs, although they are fairly hardy and can adapt to slightly harder water. The recommended range of pH is 6.0-7.5. Size: At the time of sale, the animal will be close to 1” in total length. Males reach about 3” in length as adults, with females being slightly smaller at a little over 2.” Age: At the time of purchase, your striped krib will be at least 3 months old. They can live for up to five years of age. Feeding: Striped kribs are omnivorous and will eat most foods offered. The bulk of their diet will be frozen food such as bloodworms and brine shrimp along with a quality flake food or cichlid pellet. They also enjoy the occasional offering of repashy gel foods and live white worms, daphnia, blackworms, etc. Color/Pattern: Males will develop a reddish color on the face and chest. Females will not have this red color and instead will be a generally yellow color and get a purple/pink belly, especially when ready to mate. Social Behavior: Striped kribs do not require being in groups, and even when they form pairs sometimes this falls apart and they turn on each other. They do really well in general community aquariums as a single fish or just a few individuals. They are only really territorial when breeding.

Peaceful community fish Males and females both are very colorful Hardy and easy to care for
