Lots of Variety

Ive bought lots of quarts for years and now gallons as i work m way into wood refinishing. Minwax has lost of variety and in some cases exact matches for repairs on antiques and doors. Ive had robust input from the minwax pros on polyshades....but i have found they simply have not explored their own product...(polyshades is easily sprayed with acetone) Ive had show stopping results even thou the minwax pros say its not possible. Im a college trained pro and its so easy for me to toss the brush using minwax polyshades, in a sprayer at 35lbs ployshades will give you show stopping results. coupled with leveling sandback/and wipe on poly you can create millionaire quality items. . I wish minwax would come up with Dania furniture colors. teal....blue and green aqua. also if they could come up with a quality staining pad that did not hang up in veneers, leaving cotton behind would be my wish list for the future.

Bought to refinish an antique oak mirror frame. Lightly sanded, used Minwax Antique Refinisher, followed by Minwax Paste Finishing Wax in Natural.

The best!

I have refinished numerous pieces of furniture over the years and have used various products. But when my daughter's house burned and a rocker from the 1800's was affected by the heat, I needed to find a product that would not effect the glue used but would remove the old shellac/varnish covering that had been heat involved. Sandpaper was out of the question due to the age of the wood. I investigated Minwax refinisher and if was perfect! I needed to wipe on and wipe off a lot but it was worth it. Original wood color came out and my family is exceedingly satisfied.

Best furniture stripper by far

I discovered this product years ago and it has saved a lot of sanding if applied with plain steel wool (not soapy) you'll get a smooth silky finish - no sanding needed. Has brought furniture back to life in one application. Does not strip any moisture from the wood either. The results are quick and instant. Must wear thick rubber gloves.

I have been using this, as well as Formby's for many years and I honestly don't know where the negative reviews come from. It works fine. No, it's not magic but nothing is. It does exactly what it is supposed to do. It's a chemical compound - not a twig you waive while muttering fake Latin.

Not equal to Formbys refinisher

It has cost me at least 4 new color coats to nearly equal the result given me by Formbys. Bring back Formbys refinisher. The Minwax removed much deep seated color staining that Formbys retained. The result is much duller than the work done exclusively with Formbys. With fine antiques, Formbys is mandatory.

Not Formbys but ok

If you thought for a minute that the execs at Sherwin Williams/minwax copied Formbys, you are wrong. This stuff is ok, but not near the level of Formbys. So how does it work? Ok if you have to remove stubborn spots that stripper does not get after a couple of applications. Be prepared with a lot of steel wool and patience. If you have grooves or angles, you will need even more time and patience. Not sure how I will integrate to my use in the future.... But is the last thing I buy. Still tossing up between this stuff and Kutzit.... Which is awful.

I'm refinishing 2 mid-century drssers. 1 i finished with this refinisher I had from 2 yrs ago and slowish but not bad. The second identical dresser I'm using a new tin just purchased. This is taking 4x as long and just not dissolving the finish despite following the directions as I did on the 1st dresser. And the cost has increased significantly.

I bought this product because Homer Formby's furniture refinisher has been replaced by Minwax Antique Furniture Refinisher. It is terrible. I've used the Formby's product for years and it is awesome. This product doesn't hold a candle to the Formby's refinisher. I've been making furniture and refinishing furniture for 60 years, so I'm not a beginner. Just terribly disappointed.
