I notice a lot of reviews for this product are from people making their own laundry soap. Well, I am not one of them. Although there are many uses for this product, all I use it for is to boost my regular laundry detergent. It helps wash away the smells imbedded in frabric that most scented detergents and frabric softeners mask. It also helps whiten whites, and keeps my washer smelling fresh. This is an older, natual product much like Borax, and I am glad to see its making a comeback. No matter how cheap the detergent you purchase is, by adding this washing powder in the machine with it will hugely boost it's cleaning power. And, what's also a plus is, it isn't expensive and doesn't take much. Sometimes, it is hard to find at the big box stores because of its popularity, so I am always glad to see it on Walmart. com at the same affordable price as in its store.
So my partner works at a steel foundry, more specifically, the area where they make the molds for the steel. The foundry uses this awful black sand that turns every single thing BLACK, not to mention the amount of sand that comes home on his clothes. If you know, you know. I only wash his clothes once a week, so by the end of the week his jeans and anything else he's worn are literally just solid black from the smoke and sand, plus they stink like the foundary and a man who has worked in them all week. It's gross. I used to wash his clothes 2 or 3 times with Tide pods to get them clean, and even then I was still seeing stains. I have been using Borax and that helped some for sure, but last time I ordered they were out so I tried this. It works SO WELL. I sprinkle it in with his laundry, throw in a Tide pod and even his light colored jeans come out clean the first wash, even using cold water. This stuff has saved me a lot of time and money and I definitely won't be going back to Borax or spending hours washing and rewashing his nasty work clothes. I'm gonna have to start trying to use it in other ways, because if it works this well on his clothes, I'm sure it works awesome on anything.
For towels or clothes that get dirty the most, I use 2 cups of washing soda, let the washing machine filled up, add clothes, let it spin for 10 mins. I then stop it and let the clothes soak for 1 hour. The fibers of the fabric get really clean. You don't believe me? You will see the muddy water when you get the machine started again. Adding .5 cup to regular loads helps as well, as maintenance.
For real, put 1 c of this and 1 c of Borax in your bathtub with all your CLEAN towels....then fill till they are submerged with hot water. Leave them 4 hours. Your water will be BROWN.....they werent really clean. This stuff is amazing to get all the set in dirt out!
Why is Walmart where we all go to shop? This is a a great example -- just try finding this washing soda at a reasonable price elsewhere! This stuff is necessary to make my soap. (Need a good recipe? Know that large family from Arkansas that has the TV show? Try their website, they have this recipe and lots of other good ones, too. Hint, hint.) Everyone and their brother stocks baking soda, but finding this washing soda entails travel and investigatory skills that would strain Indiana Jones' resources. I hope it stays in stock, this is awesome!
I just love this washing soda! I read somewhere that it could help with smells in your washer so I decided to try it, it is not expensive. Baking soda is so natural also and I know it will not bother anyone's skin. I use 1/4 cup right in the tub, in every load now and my clothes have no smell at all and my washer does not smell. I have a front loader and if you have one you know they are awful for getting a mildewy smell. I tried to keep the washer door open but it always seemed to get pushed shut. I think it helps the clothes get cleaner also. I just can't be without it now.
Never heard of this before…. But it’s an amazing boost to laundry!! Went looking for it to complete a super cleaning detergent recipe that miraculously worked at getting stains out! Bought this instead of replacing mattress covers… cleaned, refreshed, softened and truly looked as good as new!
My local store ran out , I searched and found it at Walmart at almost the same price . I use this for mainly for cleaning 1/2 teaspoon washing soda , 1/4 teaspoon liquid dish soap and 2 cups hot water -sometimes I may add 1/2 teaspoon Borax, best grease cutter and general cleaner . No chemicals or smell to aggravate my Asthma. I am pleased Walmart has begun to carry this , if I should be in need of it again I know they have it.
In my scouring powder (1 cup baking soda, 1/2 cup washing soda, 1/2 cup not-iodized salt, sprinkled into the tub and then I poured some white vinegar over it, which made it foam) it worked beautifully with a scrub brush in my very dirty bathtub, that my usual cleansers and white vinegar alone didn't clean. I found that scouring powder recipe online, when I Googled "how to clean bathtub naturally" which called for this washing soda, which I'd never heard of. The recipe is on this webpage: http://wellnessmama.com/1348/scouring-powder/
This could clean the souls of all of our ancestors. It could clean the white off rice. It could clean a carburetor, grandma, two turn tables and a microphone, and then be put in the laundry. All for less than $5 for a huge box! Wow If you've ever wondered what your “stripped” sheets would feel like, it's eerie how dry they feel out of the dryer. Took oil right out. I usually do at least 2 cycles to make that happen. I have a massage business and use oil. I have Guinea pigs, and they're a hot mess. As I'm an old single lady, my feral cat crew showed up and now I have a small cat sanctuary. The laundry is ridiculous and out of hand. I don't have time or desire or money or water to do 2 runs of each load. I also have immunological allergies, as does my special needs daughter. I use this for work and the pets. I don't use it for her and I. BUT, I don't break out in a rash or hives when I unload the laundry, and that says a lot. I do however feel like churning butter by hand, after using it… seems “old timey”. We definitely don't realize how much of a coating our clothes, linens, and other laundry go through, until it's removed. They're completely different. Unbelievable!
