This is the 2nd Oster egg cooker I own. The first one lasted more that 20 years. I was surprise to find that Oster still makes the exact same egg cooker. No wonder, they last forever!
We eat a lot of hard boiled eggs for breakfast. This makes it so easy to have them ready beforehand. It has automatic shutoff, which is extremely helpful, and the eggs come out perfect every time.
This is my second Oster poacher...The first one lasted probably15 years...It is absolutely the best.
OSTER HAS BEEN THE BEST FOR OVER THE 50 YEARS THAT I HAVE USED THERE PRODUCTS. THIS IS THE 3RD EGG COOKER THAT I HAVE HAD . THE 1ST ONE I GOT FROM MY MOTHER AND IT LASTED FOR ANOTHER 10 YEARS. THIS UNIT COOKS FAST, IS EASY TO CLEAN AND IS THE ONLY EGG COOKER THAT I WOULD HAVE.
Before purchasing the Oster Egg Cooker, I read several reviews from different web sites. The Oster brand came out ahead every time. I understand why. I have used the egg cooker three times already, and the boiled eggs come out perfectly every time. It is so much easier and less messy than boiling eggs in a pan of water, plus the eggs don't break as easily as they do in boiling water. Also, there is a lot less "eggy" smell in the air. The cooker is easy to clean, and the appearance is just really cute! It is a great convenience, and I am very happy I chose to buy one.
We had one of these for many years and it suddenly disappeared (maybe in a seak moment I gave it away). Hunted and hunted for another one and finally decided the price and service from Walmart was the best bet. The cooker poaches perfect eggs if you follow the directions and a 12 year old did her own soft boiled eggs for the first time. Have only had this one a short while, but the other one was about 12 or 15 years old and was used many times.
I gift these to friends and family all the time because mine has served me well for almost 20 years! They are not only durable, but easy to use and easy to clean. They make the best hard-boiled eggs consistently every time - even with very fresh eggs. And the price can't be beat. I also love the way it poaches eggs. The only way it could be any better would be if it were larger.
I looked all over and could not locate an egg cooker before finding this one at Wal-mart. It works great... fast, simple and perfect every time. I wish it buzzed insead of clicked when it was done... that is the only negative. It cleans up fast, makes a perfect egg everytime.
I was eager to receive this egg cooker as the one I was replacing (a different brand) was leaking water as it cooked. I love that this cooker can make eight eggs at once. It does a nice job of cooking, though I had to cut back a bit on the water so I didn't have the green ring around the inside edge of the yolk on my hard cooked eggs. The only drawback is the timer. When the unit is finished cooking, it only makes a click sound and shuts off. The sound is not even very loud. The other unit I had beeped loudly several times and could be heard from other rooms. I don't feel comfortable leaving this unit to go to another room because I don't think I will hear the click. Although the unit turns itself off, the heat still present inside could continue to cook the eggs. I considered returning it for this reason but decided the cooking quality outweighed the timer feature. I have not tried the egg poacher yet, though it seems to be a handy feature.
This egg cooker replaced an Egg-Genie that I had returned (the eggs started burning after a few usages and the pointy pin that you pierce the egg with was placed in an area that you used to pick up the plastic tray...meaning you always pricked and bloodied yourself...ick!). You also had to keep up with the measuring cup. Things I like about the Oster egg cooker: - First of all, and most important, the eggs come out deeelicious! - I like the handles on both sides of the unit...easy to pick up and move, etc. - I like the handle on the lid - I like the clear lid to see what's going on inside - The poaching tray also has a handle for easy pickup - I like a separate 'ON' switch (Egg-Genie was plug-in to turn on, unplug to turn off) - I like the auto-turn off when eggs are cooked (the on-switch light turns out also) - I like the position of the piercing pin, which is in the center of the egg tray...much easier to use and not in a place to pierce yourself! - I like that there is no separate measuring cup to keep up with for the amount of water to use. This model's inside tray has 'ledges' that you fill water up to depending on what type of result you want. The only thing I wish this model had is a buzzer or alarm of some sort to alert you when the eggs are finished cooking. The Egg-Genie buzzed, though it kept cooking until you got there and unplugged it...the Oster turns itself off (there's a very small 'click' when the on swith turns off, but you can't hear it unless you're very close) but I want to hear a buzzer or such instead of having to stay near the cooker to know when to put the eggs into cold water. - This model also looks very nice on the counter and doesn't take up much space. Hope this helps...mmmm, now I'm hungry for egg salad!!
