My wife and I planned a snorkeling excursion this summer offshore Puerto Rico. I was concerned about what to do with our two iPhones, car keys, license, credit card, and some loose cash. Our son and daughter-in-law just returned from a snorkeling/surfing trip to Hawaii, and they recommended the same model Otterbox 3000. The Drybox worked as advertised, everything stayed nice and dry; granted we did not go any where near 100ft deep, but it worked for us. My only concern with the product are the plastic latches. They are very tight to operate (as they should be), and the force required to open and close the latches made me worry about breaking them. Overall, I would recommend this product.
Large enough to hold my phone in it's Defender case along with my blue-tooth and charger.. Great additional protection for my electronics and other small items. I can only think of one improvement and that would be to have rubber corners that glow in the dark to make it easier to find in the darkness of a tent, or bottom of a bag. Hopefully Otter Box will come out with a line of glow in the dark accessories.
I got this DRYBOX along with my Defender case for free during a promotion OtterBox had going over the holidays. That made the Defender case a great deal. Even it if weren't free it is worth the price. I got it to protect my phone from the elements while mountain biking and/or canoeing. I haven't had a chance to use it yet (too darn cold). It appears to be made very well and it is waterproof as I tested it by submerging it the bathtub. I don't usually swamp my canoe or get caught in the rain biking but it's nice to know that if I do, my phone may be the only thing that stays dry.
Bought the Drybox for my husband and son to keep their valuables safe during their hunting trips. My husband had fried his phone while duck hunting. They recently went on a float trip and their canoe tipped a few times. Everything got wet except the stuff in the Dry boxes. Saved the phones, wallets and CPAP machine!
This little box is built like a safe. I submerged it under water for 15 minutes with toilet paper & dollar bills inside. Not a drop of water inside after my test. Clasps are a little tough to open, but I guess that can be a good thing. You need 2 thumbs. Went snorkeling & had the Drybox 3000 floating next to me for 30 minutes, ( tip, use a surfboard leash on your wrist ).
Does a great job. You, of course, need the right size. So far, I often need something to help open one of the latches. I expect it will loosen up with use.
I think this is a wonderful idea! Here are my thoughts.... Make the rope twice as long as it is currently- that way if your in your kayak you can loop knot it by placing the case in the loop and having it protected. The string length currently really is only good for carrying it. I would also try to figure out a new latching system- one that a remain doesn't need to use two hands to open it. But over all I feel very safe with my phone in the case and the design gives more room for keys- phone and lip balm.
item arrived intact with no damage, upon opening the drybox the clasp separated from the box and headed for the floor. I can just imagine being out in the field and the clasp falls in the mud or lake of river .. No can't use this in my business! I was able to slide the clasp back on but it continued to separate on other attempts.
The case is made with a hard non sticking back.. It will slide right off any slightly sloped surface. If you lay it on it's face you have a chance of the phone not slipping. I once again learn that it is unwise to buy anything sight unseen. The reason I say not useful is because it is too small.
Tried to get the box open and the hinges - sticky the first time I tried to open it- broke off the second time. Can't tell if it would have served the purpose since I had it all of 10 minutes before it broke. Very disappointed - it was hard / nearly impossible to open and broke within minutes.
