Great machine . Love Brothers machines. I have 4 of them.
My wife and I found the Project Runway model XR9550PRW to be an excellent sewing machine. In researching for its purchase, I noticed it included several quilting features that were "optional" on other models.
My 15+ yrs. old Brother CS-8150 had just died on me, I researched many Brother models and even other brands, Brother Customer Service recommended this and two other models as a similar model as a replacement, and oh boy have they been right. I love the DVD to watch closely a few tricks, especially the threading system, which is kind of tricky until you get used to it. It took me only a few minutes, and I got it. I am still practicing with a fat quarter to see all the different stitches, and so far I love what I see. My favorite feature is using the machine without a foot pedal, that is very convenient. The machine comes with a huge selection of different sewing feet, plus my quilt foot, walking foot and freehand quilt foot from the old machine fit, which is another plus. The machine is fairly light and so far has everything I expected. I am not a huge fan of the hard plastic cover, but it will do the job for now until I find another storage case, that also takes care of all the accessories and attachments. Something like a small toolbox will do it. I am happy.
I have owned 3 Brother sewing machines and this is by far, the go to machine for dependability. I did return a refurbished model and purchased same model, but brand new. I have sewn many hours already with zero problems. The stitches are clean and I have had no problems with thread tension. There is a good variety of stitch selections, not to mention all the useful attachments included. For embroidery I do prefer my SE625, but for regular sewing it is the XR9550. I do wish it came with automatic thread cutter, I think all machines should. Even with that being said, this XR9550 is an excellent sewing machine for all levels of sewing.
I got a manual written in Spanish I need one written in Enghlish. I enjoy the machine but would like to use more of the features.
Its a great machine, but I did not get the driver CD or the manual. I can't wait to start my projects. Please send CD.
This is a good basic machine, easy to work. The needle plate having the seam allowance measurements behind the needle is a problem. The metric measures are next to the needle making fabric feed easy. But the inches way behind is unusable. Needing to use a tape line is very old school but only way to use the machine. The measurements are a bit off which is another problem. Keep a clear ruler on hand. The Singer plate has clear lines and would be helpful if included in the Brother machines as an alternate plate to buy, Id buy one.
wasn't able to use the unit because the computer burnout and have to travel 60 miles to get it fixed under warranty. A friend of mine has one and she loves hers so I hope to get mine back and feel the same.
