I was totally blown away with this new grouping of grains in one cereal. I have individually eaten many of these Ancient grains in separate dishes and enjoyed them a lot... But never in all in one cereal.. The taste and combination was wonderful. Instead of adding milk I used vanilla flavored yogurt with my first morning bowel of Ancient grains and and was very pleased with the results. Then that evening I just couldn't resist sitting down with the box and having a great snack right out of the box with a glass of 2 % milk.... What a great treat and satisfying, and nutritional as well. I don't have any idea how much the cereal will cost me in the store as I haven't finished the box, however, it won't matter, as this will be my new cheerios of choice... Besides if your are ever purchased these individual grains in separate packages, they are not cheap...... Lou h.
This Cheerios Variety is excellent. I normally eat the Plain Cheerios in the Yellow Box, but add a little Granola to "spice" things up. And now Cheerios came out with this Variety which is great, because it kind of got the Granola already in it, except they call them "Ancient Grains". And it tastes wonderful. It's got just the right crunch for me and I really like the puffy grains that have a slight nutty taste. My Children love this Cereal as well and have been eating it up which is great, because at 5g of Sugar per serving this is much healthier than any of those cereals specifically aimed at Kids and I hope that soon Cheerios + Ancient Grains will be available in a bigger box with more ounces so we don't run out as fast. We're definitely buying this Cereal again and again.
Cheerios plus Ancient Grains Cereal is a great choice for those who are trying avoid sugary breakfast food varieties. General Mills adds minimal sugar to this cereal (I believe most of it is in oats and quinoa clusters). Don't get me wrong, the cereal does taste very sweet and nutty thanks to the natural flavors of the whole grains. The texture is very pleasant so no hard clusters to chip your tooth. After adding milk there is an expected softening but a slight crunch remains even for a slow eater. You can dress it up with fruits add it to a yogurt or eat it plain and I'm sure you will be satisfied with this nutritious choice.
This is going to be my Go-To cereal. It has so many individual great flavors. It isn't sweetened, but the natural grains give it a unique sweetness all it's own. I don't know why it took so long to find this mixture of flavors, but I hope it stays around for a long time. Stopped at the store and stocked up on extra boxes. I gave a small bowl to my 7 year old "Fussy Eater" granddaughter. I was surprised when she asked for more. Definitely a KEEPER.
Cheerios + Ancient Grains Cereal, 11.6 oz General Mills Says, “Kamut wheat = Rich buttery taste. Spelt = Sweet, hazelnut taste. Quinoa = Nutty taste in a crunchy oat cluster. Quinoa, spelt and Kamut wheat are grains that have been around for centuries--that's why they're ancient! We did not discover them, we simply uncovered a way to deliciously enjoy them. Each grain brings a unique texture and flavor to every spoonful of Cheerios + Ancient Grains Cereal. Plus, Cheerios + Ancient Grains offers a great deal of health benefits with a taste your whole family will love! May reduce the risk of heart disease: Diets low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease. Cheerios + Ancient Grains cereal is low in fat (2.5 grams), low in saturated fat (0.5 grams), and cholesterol free.” I say this cereal is naturally sweet, with just the right amount of crunch. It is also a bit shocking when you first pour the cereal into the bowl, because there are two colors of Cheerios, and one looks “burnt”. The dark one is crunchy, while the light one is soft. With the addition of the other grains, you have a diversity of textures when you chew. The cereal is also very filling. You will find a caution on the box, stating that the package contains wheat, so those with wheat allergies must stay away. This is a very good addition to the Cheerios line, and I will recommend them, and try them again.
Cheerios + Ancient Grains are a more lightly sweetened and crunchier version of regular Cheerios (in the yellow box). It has 12 ¾-cup servings versus yellow box Cheerios' 1-cup serving size. It has the same amount of fat grams (2g) and protein grams (3g) as the yellow box Cheerios. The Ancient Grains Cheerios has more sugar grams (5g) versus yellow box Cheerios at 1g. It has less fiber grams (2g) versus yellow box Cheerios at 3g. Also, ¾ cup serving of Ancient Grains is 110 calories versus 80 calories per ¾ cup serving size of the yellow box Cheerios (which is recommended for children ages 4 and under on their box). What I liked about these Cheerios is that there are varied textures, so while I'm chewing it's interesting to my palate. I like that I can taste the familiar soft crunch of the O's while stumbling upon a crunchier cluster of oats, quinoa, Kamut wheat and spelt. My kids all said they liked the Ancient Grains Cheerios and that they would eat them again. For those who count calories or are watching your sugar intake, I believe 5 grams of sugar is probably a lot. I mean, if you allot 6 grams of sugar to ‘spend' on a sweet treat maybe you'd rather spend it on a cookie or ice cream sandwich. I usually eat yellow box Cheerios with a banana and the sugar grams in a banana are much higher than 5 grams (14 grams for a medium size banana from a Google search). Eating Ancient Grains Cheerios I found that I didn't need to add a banana because it was sweet enough.
So many reasons to love this cereal. A variety of flavors in each bite. Familiar, but not completely so. A unique combination and quite delicious. Subtly sweetened to a perfect balance. No one could ever call this cereal bland or dull in any way . A fresh taste.. An attractive collection of not just taste, but texture as well. And healthy too. What more could a person ask for in a cereal? The name is catchy---”Ancient Grains”. That alone would have enticed me to try this product. Curiosity maybe, but whatever reason I chose this, I am glad that I had the opportunity. I will certainly mention and recommend this to extended family and friends.
I eat Cheerios regularly and found this iteration to be O.K. I like the flavor of Cheerios products even though they are more bland than spectacular in flavor, but what do you expect from grain cereal. To put more granola like sweetness would just add more sugar and that is probably not what you want if your goal is to increase fiber and whole grains to your diet. I don't know the benefit of "ancient" grains, but I think a wide variety is better than the same thing all the time. The more different grains, the more different fruits, the more different vegetables etc. that you eat, has to give your body more nutrients from a variety of sources, just like the more variety in exercise that you do will keep your body more healthy and well rounded. Your body gets used to the same thing and gets less from it. So I say this cereal will definitely be added to my mix, just for the variety factor, the flavor is in line with other cheerios products.
This is some great healthy cereal with difficult to find ingredients. It's not only organic and no genetically modified organisms, but full of whole grains. This means it's made with live grains, quinoa, spelt, and kamut wheats. These grains have been around a very long time before me or you. It is much tastier, Cheerios tastes score just went up 10 POINTS!! And believe or not is that it has very little added sugar. However, its very lightly sweetened. Sprouted grains are easier to digest and have up to 10x more nutrition than conventional grains. It also digests like a vegetable so it's easy for your body to utilize its nutrients, which have a much healthier glycemic index and is awesome stuff. If you are a diet this cereal states it is low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease. I love it and strongly recommend this Cheerio brand of cereal. Awesome, just awesome.
I opened these as soon as I rec'd the cereal and found this tasted pretty good. Not a sugary taste - even though there is a lot more sugar in this cereal than expected. The ingredients say that for just ¾ cup of cereal there is 2 grams Sugar which is part of the Total 22 grams Carbohydrates. By dividing the Total 22 grams by 4 this equals to 5½ teaspoons of Sugar for just ¾ cup cereal. (because carbohydrates become blood sucrose) The type and density of the sugars and carbs will make some difference - but, to me, this still doesn't look very good especially when I realized that I would eat far more than just ¾ cup of cereal at one time. And I would never add 5½ teaspoons of sugar to just ¾ cup of cereal (which is how much it would be after eating). Some people may not care but I've become very observant of what I eat and I am always reading the ingredients. The only thing I found that I would want to eat in this cereal was the Quinoa but there isn't much of that in it. Yet I do realize other cereals may have more sugar than this but a buyer would need to check for themselves as to whether this will work for them. And if someone just wants something that tastes pretty good and does not have a strong sugary taste then they will probably like this cereal.
