After researching options, this smoker perfectly fit the bill! My husband wanted to smoke all winter long here in New England, and his hand-me-down charcoal smoker wouldn't hold heat as the temps dropped. That's not so bad in the warmer weather, but needing to constantly "bubba" (babysit) the charcoal smoker in the frigid NE winter was not an option. Anyway, the smoker came in perfect condition, was easy to assemble, and we had the best smoked pork ribs and jerk chicken we could have hoped for - first time out! This smoker was a great value for the price and there is plenty of space to smoke enough for our neighbors, too! Love it!
Pretty good smoker, used it about 7-8 times since we bought it and it's absolutely amazing. One thing I would suggest is getting a digital Thermometer, the one that comes with it can be a bit off. The low setting is steady and keeps the temp around 200-250 degrees. Experience 15+ years of smoking food.
I have enjoyed using this smoker very much. The walls are not very thick and not insulated well, but for the price it is great. You will enjoy it. If you want a real high quality one, this is not it, but for $200 you can't beat it.
This is a very good smoker. Very minor smoke leaks, near hinges, not worth trying to stop. Held temperature solid. I usually smoke around 225 to 250, no problem with this smoker. Was also able to run temperature up to 400 degrees for seasoning the smoker, held this high temperature steady as well. I am extremely happy with this model/brand smoker.
Arrived as scheduled in good condition. Have used it twice with good results
Bought this as a gift. It arrived quickly and in perfect condition. It took two guys about 20 minutes to put together. Easy to use as well.
Received cooker on promised date of delivery to store. Pretty easy to put together. The only problem I encountered was the smoker was damaged/crushed on one corner. This damage had to occur during packing at Smoke Hollow. The outside packing was undamaged and the original box was undamaged. The strip with all the parts was also torn apart and the small screws, nuts and bolts were everywhere. Due to the distance back to Walmart, it did not make sense to try and repackage and return. My husband was able to fix the crushed corner so we can use it. Seasoned the smoker per the instructions and getting ready for our first party. This was not a Walmart issue so I was very satisfied with their end of it. Price was right.
When I was asked to make pulled pork for 75 people I decided to upgrade to a bigger smoker. After researching thoroughly I selected this item based on grill space and value. There was a glitch and my order wasn't delivered on the date scheduled, but Walmart.com made it right. Thank you. Assembly was simple. I discovered two limitations during my seasoning. The doors leaked smoke badly, but it didn't seem to affect temperature too much. $20 worth of wood stove door gasket and cement, problem solved. Second was that the water pan, while decent size, didn't cover the entire grill area. If I had filled up the grates to capacity with meat, there would have been a significant amount of drippings that fell to the bottom of the unit making a huge mess and likely burning and in turn creating a burned smell (from experience with my last smoker). I bout a 12"x18" baking pan, cut a 6"/9" hole in the center and placed it above my water pan. It worked perfectly. All the drips were collected and returned to the water pan. (Smoke Hollow's 44" Dual-Burner LP Gas Smoker Model 44241G2 comes with a drip rail built in.) I cooked 6 pork shoulders for 10 hours at 225 degrees. I did have to rotate top and bottom trays as the top tray seemed to cook faster. They came out perfect. I am looking forward to my next smoking project.
I would have given this smoker 5 stars if I didn't have a burner problem. When first assembled the burner was 90% yellow flame. Not Good! I blew out the burner with my compressor and also blew out the orifice into the burner. That seemed to give me a bluer flame. I spoke to smoker hollow support and was willing to send me a new burner but they couldn't guarantee that they could get it to me by the end of February. Other than that the smoker came undamaged and went together in a little over an hour.
Had for a month now. Keep good consistent heat when cooking. Easy assembly. Hold penalty of meat for a dozen people.
