I loved my Merrell hiking boots I bought before going to Ireland and then CA so when I saw the Encore Ice 4 I really hoped it would be an amazing find for an outside shoe to take our Samoyed "puppy" (he's 12) out for his morning and evening walks. Turns out...this is the MOST comfortable and cozy casual "moccasin" shoe to do that! I absolutely love the support and although I love it I will be buying another pair in a slightly larger width (I do have a wider foot should've gone with the wide instead of medium but ya never know how they will wear. So I will be keeping it and getting another in 6.5 wide. You cannot go wrong with Merrell's!!! Definitely Recommend but go ahead and feel secure in ordering your normal size. They are true to that (at least for me). Love, Love, Love my Merrell!!!!
I wear these as house shoes/slippers. Not only are they great for getting the mail or taking the dogs out but I can take them to the office and swap them out with my snow boots. Pair these with a medium weight wool sock for the coziest, most comfortable winter clogs ever. We're currently in the 10-below part of winter and I'm exceedingly pleased with these shoes.
I really love these! I got the blue color and they're really pretty. The foot bed is cushiony and feels really good. They do take a few days to break in, they do change the way you stand and walk. At first I wasn't sure but after slowly building up my time wearing them, I realized I stood up straighter and walked better, reducing the pain in my legs, hips and back that my other shoes caused. They run about a half size up. I normally wear a 9 in everything except Merrill's, I bought an 8.5 and they fit perfectly. My only complaint is that because they are a moc, I don't feel a hundred percent solid walking on more than a dusting of snow. I would like to see Merrell put an Arctic grip on these. That is only my opinion and others might not have the same experience wearing them. Other than that, I love them. Very beautiful, easy to clean and very comfortable.
One must half-size down in this shoe. It is not the Encore of previous iterations. The main shoe is just as sturdy, but even a half size down leaves a lot of wiggle, which translates to less stability. I generally wear two pairs of socks; this shoe was sized improperly-both in relation to one's regular shoe size, as well as in comparison to the Encore of years past. For reference, I have many Encore from throughout the years and still own and use them. The good part is the support did not change at all in Encore 4. Encore 2 had a very bad support platform, not the normal shape. Encore 4 foot platform is like the originals. Inside, the “shearling” lining is not nearly as thick as it used to be. It is not secured or cut to fit without bunching up while walking. This is very disappointing. Merrell, please fix this. Merrell replacement inserts do not make it much better. Color description “raisin” is very accurate. It's not burgundy; it definitely has a subtle plum hue. It is a beautiful leather shoe. Plan your purchase knowing the above details.
I have bought this shoe over the years several times. This time the lining in the shoe won't stay in. Every time I take the shoes off the lining partially comes out
I bought 2 pairs of these shoes within 6 months of each other. Pair # 1 was good. Pair # 2 is horrible. Wafer thin insoles and has created a sore below my right foot. Bought insoles for them in the hopes it would be better? Nope! There is something definitely wrong with the shoe. Seriously rethinking future shoe purchases!
Disappointed that this has a design update to the last pair I bought. Now there is a seam running up the back of the heel which rubs every time I walk. The old design seems to have more of the fuzzy lining at the heel, and also did not have this stupid seam. Returned them.
Shoddy workmanship. The fur is so uneven and looks like a child came by and cut it. So disappointed because I love the look of this show. The first pair I sent back because it was so bad and explained problem. They sent me a 2nd pair which were not much better. At least it didn't have glue on the swede. Sending back.
I am shocked these have received good reviews. I have had many pairs of Encore Chill. These are no where near the quality of the previous versions. They are lighter, less warm and less comfortable. I wore them around the house and the suede scuffed off the toe on the first day. My oldest pair is 10 years old and I have walked all over the globe in them - they still has never had suede scuff off. So disappointed. I loved the old model. Please bring it back.
I have been a fan of this brand for many years. I was looking for a new pair of fleece lined slip on's to replace the Merrell's I wear almost every single day. I am not comfortable in typical slippers. I have always appreciated the arch support and sturdiness of these shoes. So when I saw Encore slip-ons, I was excited to get a new pair. But much to my disappointment, the new ones were not nearly the quality I had to come to expect from this brand. The shoe itself is much lighter, the fleece was uneven and felt cheap. I already have a wide foot & these felt too roomy in the toe area. I can only imagine after wearing them for a while, my feet would be swimming in them. (I typically wear a size 8 or 8 1/2; I bought a size 8). What's more, the footbed has an insole that is not glued down, so after an hour of wearing them in my house, I felt the insole shift & bunch up. Did I mention that there is an annoying, synthetic tag on the inside that cuts into my foot unless you cut it or fold it under the insole? For all of these reasons I returned them. This is not the quality I have come to expect from this brand... especially for the price. Very disappointed. I should have listened to a similar review. I hope the company will reassess is where it is getting these shoes made. I guess I will keep wearing my old ones until I find something else.
