The previous review isn't really fair
Love it! Exactly what I needed.
Fit 5 of my very old steam radiators, was too wide for other 3. They wire hooks didn't fit and I'm not strong enough to bend them. I bent a wire coat-hanger to attach them. I just put them on, so I don't know how effective they are at adding humidity.
I saw other reviews, and was worried they wouldn't fit my old radiators. Our 100 yr house has 8, each one a little different from the others. The plastic bucket fit on 5 out of 8 (the other ones were too narrow). The wires to connect did NOT fit, and I'm not strong enough to bend them. I used coat hangers to attach the buckets. Only 4 stars, because I just put them on less than a hour ago and don't know how they are a humidifiers.
A sturdy product but the spacing of unit did not fit the distance between the fins of the radiator. And the sturdy wire supports were not long enough to hang properly. I wish Snow Joe made other similar units that would fit my 1920s radiators.
This product will only last a few years. The hangers attach close to the top of the product thus one hanger ripped out and the other was ready to go. Keep in mind that the radiator is hot and the water has some weight. The fins did not line up with the radiator but I do not think this is a big issue. The mounting area needs to be moved down
The wire hangers were useless. Had to design my own with wire and bent clothes hangers. My radiators are much wider, older construction.
Evaporation rate is very very disappointing and hangers do not work with Victorian type hot water radiators. I have radiator top units that are far superior with evaporation but are unfortunately no longer available.
I was pretty alarmed when I got this product in mail. The plastic wrapping it had been shredded by the hooks inside and the packaging itself was dirty. When I took a look at the plastic tub, I saw that the holes for the hooks looked jagged, like they had been manually cut out with a blunt box cutter, and there were also odd plastic scuffing on the inside. Unlike other reviewers, the hooks did fit over my radiator. However the spacing of the ridges on the plastic container didn't match my radiator so it couldn't sit flush. I did attempt use it and it didn't add any moisture to the room at all. I doubt it would work even if it was sitting flush. Perhaps if it was made of metal or ceramic it would, because it could conduct the heat effectively but not with this plastic. I regret wasting my money this, but the packaging was so shredded I couldn't be bothered with returning it. Ultimately I opted to fill up small ramekins with water and sit them on top of my radiator and that worked much better.
I was elated to find these online because I have a 107 year old house with 8 standard residential radiators. I ordered half a dozen and was prepared to order more (some of my radiators are long) and when I picked up the box from Walmart I was elated. No more static shocks! As soon as I got home I went to hang the first one, and discovered that these aren't made for OLD radiators, they're made for the portable, electric radiators or very narrow, much newer, permanent ones. The hooks won't reach where they have to go to hang, and the serrated side that should go against the radiators and the old radiators don't even mesh. If you have an old house with the standard sized radiators, these will be a bitter disappointment.
