Does exactly what it's supposed to do.
Easy to setup, Easy to use, Does a good job of scanning an copying. Use it everyday. Completely satisfied with the product.

The stand up clip isn't super trustworthy, it falls off even though it has been 'latched' in place. I use Linux, I needed to install a GIT backend (look for the Rolf Bensch SANE GIT on Launchpad) because although this is "supported in Linux" by SANE, the stock SANE driver wouldn't recognize the device. Using the described Git backend, it works as expected. Comes with a CD with Windows software, I'd expect the front panel buttons would connect with that software but there isn't any English software for Linux. Supposedly LiDE 400 is also supported in MacOS, the included CD does not contain MacOS software, but the USA Canon website offered a download for MacOS. The cable is all you need to operate the scanner, no power supply is needed. Note that the USB cable is not a common connector on the scanner end - don't lose this cable! Fast scanning, excellent optical clarity, white is definitely white and not ecru or pastel grey. I docked a star because there is a German software package for Linux, there only needs to be a translation for English support.
The built-in software isn't as flexible as the 3rd party software (Vuescan) that I always use.
I like the scanner....It works
I received an opened box item with no original manual or instruction handbook. very hard to return for a refund. bad deal.
