I recently bought this set to combine play with another Mega Bloks train set that we already have. I love these buildable sets and so does my 3 year old! We play and rearrange these sets in many fun ways! You do need some strength to connect the pieces sometimes and it may come apart if you don't align them correctly or if the pieces are not well supported(common issues when building with any blocks, right), but I see that as a learning experience for my child. In the beginning, when he did get frustrated that he could not connect some pieces, I let him see how he could fix it by showing him how to correctly align the tracks and teaching him that it needs to have a supported base, then I let him try. I encouraged him to keep trying even when he got discouraged and within a couple of days he did not need my help anymore. Now he can rebuild the tracks however he wants all on his own. As long as the pieces are well connected it will not fall apart. I believe this is a great learning toy kids can have hours of fun with! I will definitely buy more sets of this kind!
Home run with the youngest grandson. If he is happy then I am happy.
My son received this Thomas Mega Bloks set for Christmas. It looked so cute, however my 3 year old needed my husband's help to put it together each time. My son was able to play about 5 minutes before pieces would come loose or fall off. This was a really flimsy toy, and required too much help from parents to put it together. It takes about 15 minutes to put together, and we had to follow pictures in the booklet to put the toy together. Would not recommend this toy for a 3 year old - there is no way a 3 year old could put it together alone. I ended up returning this toy and getting the Thomas Take-Along sets instead.
This was THE item my son wanted for Christmas. The problem, however, is that it is nearly impossible to put together without it falling apart in mid-construction. Once assembled, it falls apart almost as soon as it is touched, and it absolutely cannot withstand the force of a preschool age child's play. I am incredibly disappointed. Not only would I not recommend it, I would greatly discourage anyone from purchasing this toy. I NEVER write recommendations, but I feel so strongly about this product that I find it my duty to warn others against it.
This was the biggest disappointment. My son got it for a christmas present and it is the cheapest quality I have ever seen. He can't even touch it with out it completely falling apart. The blocks won't even stay together.
My son got this for Christmas and it was horrible to put together. The recommended age of 3-4 is totally inappropriate. Once it was assembled it wouldn't stay together long enough to play with. We debated whether or not to super glue it or take it back. In the end, we returned it for something he could actually enjoy.
