Oh my goodness - first, let me say: put down your phone and RUN to go buy this beautiful contraption! I cannot wait to begin to tell you how incredible the Blackstone Pizza Oven is! Initially, after it arrived, it took me about 2 hours and 20 minutes to put it together. I did this by myself, without help from anybody else. It IS able to be assembled solo, but it would help to have an extra set of hands. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. All of the screws/nuts/bolts and phillips screwdriver were neatly packaged together. I was actually surprised it came with a screwdriver. The screwdriver it comes with is nice as it allows the screws to magnet onto the screwdriver head to prevent the screw from falling and losing a screw. Toward the end of the assembly, you can opt to put your Blackstone Pizza Oven on a flat surface or attach it to the cart. If you choose to place it on a counter or flat surface, it comes with the legs needed to be able to do so. If you opt to put it on the cart (which is what I've done), you set the legs aside and end up screwing the pizza oven to the cart (this part is tricky and ultimately you'll be on the ground in an uncomfortable position trying to screw the pizza oven onto the cart). Once it is assembled it's time to party! If you are as eager to make pizza as I was, let me suggest you pre-make your dough and buy a pizza peel. I did not do this and had to wait an extra day to make pizza (which really isn't a big deal, but I was overly exicted to make some pizza and then was bummed to learn pizza dough takes hours to proof). Do yourself a favor and pre-make the dough, have the necessary pizza toppings on hand and purchase a pizza peel and pizza cutter (if you don't already have them). You will be thanking me later. The pizza oven requires one AA battery for the ignition. You can also get (four) D batteries to prevent the need of plugging the Blackstone Pizza Oven into an electrical outlet. The D batteries will turn the pizza stone. I find it easier to just plug the pizza oven in; however, if I were to take my pizza oven camping, I would purchase the batteries necessary to eliminate the need for an outlet. Additionally, you will, of course, need a propane take to hook up to the oven. Before I cooked pizza for the first time, I turned on the pizza oven and let it get as hot as it could. I wanted to burn off any impurities from the pizza stone and from inside the oven. I actually did this twice, though I'm sure one time would be sufficient. Now it was the time we've all been waiting for! PIZZA TIME!! The first time I cooked pizza, it was a little rough. There was definitely a learning curve to this. So, please, learn from my mistakes. To turn the Blackstone oven on, turn your propane tank on as well as the red regulator that is on the hose that connects to the propane tank (about half way is fine). Then, plug in the oven; this will start turning the bottom pizza stone. Next, push in and turn the temperature adjustment dial to the lightening bolt and hold it there for at least 10 seconds after the burner ignites. This will ensure your flame doesn't go out. Initially, I allowed the pizza oven to get to the necessary temperature (from what I've watched on YouTube and read online, between 500°F - 600°F). DO NOT let the pizza oven get this hot! The bottom of your pizza and exposed crust on top will burn significantly and your pizza will end up having a soggy center. If you let the temperature get to just over 400°F to (no hotter than) 450°F, your pizza will turn out wonderfully! You can regulate the temperature of the oven with the knob on the front of the Blackstone -or- the red regulator on the hose that attaches to the propane tank. Again, do not let your stone get hotter than 450°F. I personally did not use an infared thermometer and find it to be unnecessary as the temperature gague on the Blackstone will tell you how hot the oven is. Now it's time to bake some pizza! I found it easier to build my pizza right on the peel. I have read to not use flour on your pizza peel as this will leave your pizza crust tasting off. I ended up using cornmeal on the peel to prevent the pizza dough from sticking to the peel. The cornmeal was helpful, but use caution with the amount of cornmeal you use. An over abundance will end up sliding off onto the pizza stone and catching on fire. Anyway, once your pizza is cooking, it will take about 2 to 3.5 minutes (depending on how thick your crust is and the amount if toppings on your pizza). I know Blackstone advertises pizza within 90 seconds, but I have found 90 seconds leaves the pizza crust too soggy for my liking. You will be able to tell the done-ness of the pizza from the color of the crust. After the crust turns the color you prefer, simply take the pizza out of the oven, cut it up and serve! The pizza comes out looking and tasting much better than a pizza you'd get from a pizza parlor. Please note that if you build your pizza right on the peel, let the pizza peel cool off for a second before putting additional cornmeal on and building your next pizza. If you don't let the peel cool off slightly, your pizza dough will stick to the peel regardless of the amount of cornmeal used. Between pizzas, I will use my grill brush to scrape off any residue the pizza leaves behind. This works perfectly to clean the stone between pizzas. I have only done 8" - 12" personal pizzas as my family all has different preferences for pizza; therefore, the above recommendations would be tailored to a personal pizza. Overall, I absolutely LOVE this pizza oven! I recommend this pizza oven to everybody who has come to my house for pizza and will continue to recommend it to anybody interested in a pizza oven/ making pizza! If you have been looking into pizza ovens, PLEASE, please, please do yourself a favor and purchase the Blackstone Pizza Oven. You will not be disappointed!
The Blackstone propane Pizza oven is great. Most pizza oven I have seen sit on a tabletop. This Blackstone is basically designed like a grill, it has its own cart with wheels and does come with legs for tabletop. The hook ups and storage for propane tank connects and stores same as a grill, it uses same style and kind of tank, makes it is so convenient. It is heavy, it's built with metal, and seems good and sturdy. It took my husband a long time to put together, but he wouldn't let me help till almost done. I had never used one before, my brother-in-law has one, but I think he has burnt plenty. This comes with good directions and some recipes, so far so good. Our first try everything came out great, it cooks even and worked well. It has two heavy 16inch stones made of cordierite, like a true pizza place, these should last forever. The stone rotates, so it does cook even, it can operate on electric or batteries. I enjoyed using it and come up with lots of ideas to make in it, my husband is in love with it.
The Blackstone pizza oven is amazing! I can cook a pizza in a matter of minutes. It is as easy as connecting a propane tank to the oven, turning it on and putting the hand prepared pizza in the oven. I love it because I can make my own pizzas at home and they can be so much healthier this way. I can choose all my own toppings and have pizza whenever I want. It's so easy to use too. It's sturdy and reliable and I'm very happy with this product. Highly recommend!
I love this pizza oven especially since it sits high on the cart and I don’t have to keep bending over to see inside. The rotating stone is a plus. It was very easy to put together.
Instructions were easy to follow, sturdy. The pizza is amazing. Ease of use and how quickly to make dinner for our family.
This oven does a fantastic job of cooking a pizza regardless of whether it is a frozen pizza, or a pizza you have made from scratch. The oven itself comes mostly assembled. The stand has to be assembled from individual pieces. The assembly instructions are easy to follow, making the assembly easy and trouble free. The reason I knocked off a star is because during unpacking the oven, I heard a screw rolling around inside the oven. I discovered the screw helps hold the oven's inside wall together. I screwed it into the part it was missing from and checked the rest of the wall screws. All the rest of the screws did need to be tightened more. I suggest checking all the screws that you can get to. Other than that, the oven is made of quality materials and all fit together perfectly. I was skeptical about it heating correctly because the instructions tell you to keep the oven door off when the oven is hot. But I soon found out the oven heats up fast. The gas burner is in the lower, far right corner of the oven. The flame covers the entire half of the stone on the side that is over it. The bottom stone revolves over the flame to ensure the stone is evenly heated. There is another identical stone placed above the pizza that stays stationary. The oven soon reaches extremely high temperatures. The oven temperature is shown by a large thermometer on the front of the oven. I strongly suggest to use an infrared thermometer in order to get the temperature of the stones, especially the bottom stone. I noticed the stones get a few hundred degrees hotter than what is read on the oven thermometer. The top stone usually reads about 100 degrees F cooler than the bottom stone. The height of the stand was perfect for me. (I'm 5'5” tall.) When finished, the oven takes about an hour to cool down enough to be able to put a cover over it. In my opinion, it does as good a job cooking the pizza as most pizza parlors that use the large gas ovens can do. I don't think any pizza lover would have any regrets after purchasing this oven. Blackstone did it again!
To start, make sure you have two people when lifting this and putting it together. It has a weight of 150 pounds (without the propane tank). There are a lot of things that need screwed and it might take about 2.5 hours to put together. Once together, we made sure it worked. The directions say it might take 15 seconds to heat up thermocouple, but it took a few minutes. The same thing happened when we went to actually use it for the first time. It takes about 15 minutes to get to around 400*, which is what we cooked the pizzas at. This model doesn't come with a pizza peel, which you NEED, so make sure you get two. Why two? You need it to put pizzas in and out, and because this cooks a pizza in about 3 minutes, you want to make sure you have another ready if you're feeding many people. It takes longer to assemble a pizza then it does to cook one! We also tried it with a frozen pizza, and it took about 5 minutes. With a frozen one, I would suggest putting it on a pan (on the stone), or else your bottom will get too done and the top won't. Even though they advertise this as being able to cook more than just pizza, good luck finding any recipes! Even after registering it there is a recipe book you can download, but it's for another one of their products and not specific to the pizza oven. At that point it will be trial and error. At then end of the day it's a good conversation piece, because people are amazed at how fast it can cook a pizza and the taste you get from it.
BUY THIS PIZZA OVEN! Arrived a day later than projected, no big deal. Easy assembly. Auto spark starter does work so 4 star. Fixes amazing pizzas in 50 seconds at 700°
Before i go into what i didn't like, let me point out what i do like. This really is an awesome machine, and deserves all the praise! -Very sturdy design. Seems like it will last long(so long as i get a cover for it) as its made from quality metal. The way the top fits on is snug and perfect. It also comes with legs, though it gets so hot, i wonder where its safe to sit that close to the surface? The cart itself surprised me also. It's obvious this is how they saved their money. However, though it seemed flimsy when it was going together, it ended up holding the weight of the oven quite well! Also, the propane tank fits in there nicely. -An absolute powerhouse! I was skeptical that it could cook a pizza in 90 seconds....I almost think that may be generous. A smaller pie will be done MUCH faster. Trust me(see: 'learning curve' later in the review). Even on low heat, this thing is like a rocket booster on one side. The flame isn't underneath, instead there is a jet coming up one side that hits the stone as it rotates. My husband says that seems to cook things evenly, that along with the 2 stones. I love that it is propane, so easy to work with. Again, i feel we'll have this oven for a long time. -The price: Holy cow, the money saved when you buy this particular design from Wal-Mart! The oven itself is no different from their higher priced design. It's only the cart that's different! Big deal, right? For the savings I'll take it! -Versatile: When we first got this, of course we tried making pizza. Then my husband has the brilliant idea to put steak, spinach and cheese pinwheels in...Phu-NOM-uh-null!!! They were cooked so perfectly. Crispy and carmelized on the outside, and juicy and tender in the middle. Done in maybe 90 seconds. I can't wait to try other things!! :D Overall, I'm very pleased, even with the things I'm about to dive into that didn't make me so happy. -Unpacking. From the very start this seemed it was going to be frustrating. Not far from the truth. Let's just say, its impressive they fit everything in how they did. Just a wad of layered, tightly packed, styrofoam and carboard. -Assembly. So many screws were loose, and for once they weren't mine! They weren't ones i was meant to put in and tighten either. These were pre-assembled, and meant to be ready to rock! Not only were screws loose, some were out entirely, and a guessing game ensued. Also, there are extremely tight spaces to get screws into. Sometimes, one falls in and you have to hulk the item up, and shake it like you're cleaning the crumbs from a toaster. As i mentioned before, the cart was flimsy going together. It doesn't like staying square, and i suggest leaning it against a wall, or having a buddy as you're tightening it. -Learning Curve. 2 points here. First one being how hot it gets. It's absolutely incredible, and while i wish i could say we are masters, we just aren't yet. It cooks so fast, and once i get the hang of it, i know I'll appreciate this, but right now it frustrates me a bit. Burning happens sooo quickly. Which brings me to the second point: DO NOT HAVE SUGAR IN YOUR DOUGH! Dear reader, I hope you're seeing this before trying to make scrumptious pizza, and spending hours or even days to make your dough, just to have it burn!! Sugar is not our friend here. It appears neither is corn meal. Both of these things may suit a pan style, or even neopolitan cooked at a lower temp, but here they are not your friend. We were so sad with the first pizza attempts. The second seemed to be going better, until one with corn meal turned so black it couldn't be eaten. Understand i know its human error, but there is a lot to be learned with this machine, and I hope I figure it out sometime soon myself! -Temperature guage. It's just a fail. It gets stuck, and just generally doesnt give accurate readings. I'll be investing in one of those scanning thermometers things. Accurate temperature is imperative! So that's it. If you made it this far congrats! Final take is, none of the cons are a deal breaker, and I truly rate it 4 stars. It's an excellent value, and if I'm your deciding factor, i say go for it!
