For such a small package, it plays pretty good. Plays most games better than my own PC. Halo: MCC and Halo Infinite play really well on it. I also 3D printed a couple of grips to make it easier to hold. Oh and if anyone else has the distorted Bluetooth audio. Click the windows button, type in Services. Click on that app and search for "Bluetooth Audio Gateway Service" Now double tap it to open up the properties. You'll want to STOP the service first. Then change the start up type to Disabled. Click apply and now you can use your favorite audio enhancer like Dolby Atmos or Win Sonic without any distorted Bluetooth audio.
I think it's great. It does everything I wanted it to do and plays games really well. I think ASUS is a great company and I've never had any trouble with my ROG ALLY, so there is nothing negative for me to say because it's all been a positive outcome. Thanks, ASUS. I really want to get a GAMING LAPTOP. THAT WOULD BE AWESOME! They make the best gaming devices.
I have only had it a day for 24 hours and I can say that I like it so far. Only two things I can complain about is the plethora amounts of updates you have to do when you first get started. The other is the shape of the ROG Ally. It doesn't form to the hands but that issue can be solved by using an external controller.
The Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme is an amazing device! I'm a 41-year old woman gamer and this is more comfortable to hold than my Nintendo Switch Lite and plays like a dream. It's been exactly 4 months since my purchase and I am in LOVE! I love being able to play from my catalog of games available from Xbox (PC games), Good Old Games, Switch, EA, Epic, and many others. I really like the Armory Crate interface on this device, too. I think I like it better on here than I do on my ROG Strix SCAR 17 laptop. The device fits into a large purse (Dooney & Bourke Florentine Large Satchel, looking at you) and it's great fun. Games that I love to play on my Ally: Final Fantasy XIV, Car Mechanic Simulator 2021, Disney Dreamlight Valley, No Man's Sky, Strange Horticulture, My Time at Portia, Power Wash Simulator, Fae Farm, Ace Attorney Chronicles, Skyrim and more to come! Recommended travel accessories: ASUS - ROG 65W Charger Dock (sturdy USB-c cable connects to wall charger and allows you to connect HDMI displays + USB-A accessories), hard case with deep well to hold the Ally + the charger dock, portable trifold Bluetooth keyboard (I use the on-screen keyboard just fine during game sessions but if you are docking this at the hotel and want to stream your shows/movies from the bed...). I don't dock the Ally to play on a large screen at home because I already have better options for this: laptop mentioned above + custom built desktop (with Asus - ROG Maximus XIII Hero motherboard). I do encourage anyone who is new to PC gaming to invest in this first as it's a wonderful gateway and I see no reason for it to become obsolete once you decide to take the plunge and purchase other gaming options. The portability of this device cannot be overstated. The only con is the battery life but that's not really a con to me as big time graphics and audio have never run on energy saver mode. It's got 512 GB of storage so I've no reason to use an SD card and thus haven't run into any of the issues others ran into with regard to that. I own a lot of games but it's easy to rotate what I actually want to play on my mobile device (meaning, what I want to play in bed).
Best handheld on the market maybe? Because This console plays my entire steam library with no struggles. Unless the app isn't optimized or updated enough but 90% of games work well and they usually run at a flawless 30FPS depending on what title. For example graphically intense games like Apex Legends runs at a perfect 60 but that's only because I capped it at 60 lol
It plays PC games well enough. I get 60hz 1080p at medium settings on most heavy games.The main reasons I didn't give it 5 stars is, it's battery life is short, my model only has 512gb internal memory, and the micro SD cards/slots can go out on you. The newest model the ROG Ally X fixes most issues like extra ram.
Great way to start gaming on PC or take your PC games with you on the go. I have long wanted to jump into PC gaming to play games that I can't play on Xbox. The ROG Ally was the best solution for me. It cost less than a gaming PC that can handle similar games and I can take it with me anywhere! As this is a portable computer and not just a gaming portable there is a bit of a learning curve to know where to find all the settings you may need to maximize battery life and make they system run at a good temperature, but there are plenty of YouTube videos out there and a community of gamers willing to help you make the most of this system. The fact that this is running Windows 11 and not Steam OS software is a boon! I can run any VPN, music software etc on this device as I do on my home computer. Overall I love my Rog Ally! The only thing that could make it any better is if it had Hal effect joysticks and better battery life. Would definitely buy again if I had to make the decision over.
My unit is the ROG Ally with the AMD Z1 Extreme CPU. Setting up and upgrading the SSD from 512 GB to 1 TB was easy. All the games work great. Using the unit docked with a TV is the best. The only caveat is the battery life. It only lasts less than two hours without a charger connected. Most of the time I use the handheld connected to a charger outside or with a dock station at home. The 1080-unit screen resolution is great. I can tell since using the ROG Ally, I have not used my console for gaming. The reason is I can play games like Elden Ring at home and on the go.
Love this device. I travel for my work so carrying around multiple devices or a gaming laptop is too much weight. It's windows base making it easier to access everything I need. Only thing is the short battery life. Some airlines don't have USB or AC connectors onboard so the 2+ hr flys stink without having an external battery pack. But overall if you're looking for a easy to use and light weight handheld I recommend the Ally. Few of my friends have gotten one to for mobile gaming.
If you've set up a Windows device before, you're not likely to run into any issues. It comes with Armoury Crate, which displays all your games and everything you need to configure the device. The command center is really convenient too when you need to change some settings like the screen refresh rate and frame limiter without alt-tabbing out of your game. Battery life is okay, I run the device in either 15w or 25w in handheld mode and it lasts about 1-2hrs in games like Elden Ring. If you've got a dock, you can plug in your own peripherals, making it function like an ordinary computer. The grip could be better, though. But overall, it's a great device.
